How much space..I just bought a 3 tetra external HD and would like to cut out a partition on it to play with and learn about Linux. I am thinking something small like 100 or 150 gig. I will put either Mint 17 or Zorin 9.1 on it. What would your recommend? |

That should be plenty.
My Debian server install took less than 2 gigs. Probably a full install would be less than 6. 100gigs will leave room to grow. |

A three- tetra disk? Is it water-cooled? |

No but it will go up into the clouds. I just hooked it up and have not looked at it enough yet but I will keep my feet on the ground. I am paranoid that way. |

At least 8GB should be enough for a desktop system with a full featured desktop environment. Add more space for your own personal files. |

You may be right. It has been 55 years since I got out of school and a few new things go by me once a while. |

100 GB should be fine. To really learn Linux you should force yourself to use it as your main OS for everything you can. That is how you learn. Otherwise it's just getting your feet wet. |
