WARNING!
Unlike previous versions (6/7/8) of Java this release installs to a unique folder (jre1.8.0_20) and does not overwrite the previous version (which is left in jre8).
Evidently Oracle has decided that users want previous versions to remain unless explicitly uninstalled. |

Thanks for the update! I always remove previous versions. |

Additionally the x64 offline installer is way larger (91.6MB) than it used to be. It's possible it also includes the x86 installer as well. I downloaded the x86 installer separately and installed that first so I don't know. Perhaps someone else can verify my theory. |

Evidently Oracle has decided that users want previous versions to remain unless explicitly uninstalled. This is a pain! When you uninstalled, did you also have to dig through the directories and delete previous entries? Any word on whether or not the x64 installer also includes the x86 installer too as you mentioned in your 2nd comment. |

just want to confirm that the new 64bit installer DID install both 32 and 64 version, that is why the installer size was way larger. |

I just read through and realized that Java 8 is NOT on java.com (release versions) yet, only on Oracle. There is an article explaining this that says that version 8 is still being tested and so is being made available for developers (the version linked to here) but not yet released for the average user.
Shouldn't those of us who generally use Java very rarely, for the occasional use (like speed tests, my bank's remote deposit), wait to install 8? |

Sorry! It's right on the left menu on java.com: "Why isn't Java 8 shown here?" » java.com/en/download/faq ··· ava8.xml |

Ahh. I misunderstood your post. All releases of Java 8 (which has been out for ages) are considered to be for "developers" not just the one mentioned in this thread.
. o O (Nothing to see here. Move along.) |

StuartMW, the java.com site DOES have java 7, and is the main "everybody" site for the general population. They do NOT have java 8 and explain that by saying that 8 is not yet fully tested and they will make it available when it is. That is what confused me. |
