either front or back it should have model numbers n date code on it, so you can double check the specifications on web.

They're no fun unless you burn one.

Hehe, I know that smell; I think we are showing our age.

There are two in my old welder, over 40 years old and they still work. One day, I'll see them go.

Already had a mushroom cloud form when a real old cap went on the wire feeder. Just happened to have the top open at the time.

The year I graduated HS. I knew the smell by then.

I believe they release cyanide or something equally as bad when they blow. So you do not want to be around one when it happens.

Also...

When you exchange a selenium rectifier for a silicon diode you will find that the DC output voltage to your equipment has increased by 5 to 15 volts. In order to maintain the originally specified output voltage, you will want to add a series resistor between the cathode and the first filter capacitor. Sometimes the increase in output voltage is not a particular problem, but a resistor should be added in all cases to reduce the surge current.

Selenium rectifiers have a naturally higher internal resistance, so they self-limit the surge current. Silicon diodes have a lower forward resistance, so you need a resistor in series just to reduce the surge. The old rule-of-thumb is to size the resistor to drop about 10 volts, simulating the drop of the old selenium rectifier.

Full wave even..
I've still got a few in the drawer NOS.. or is that NVOS? (new very old stock)

On the one you posted the 2 outside connections (with the bridge bar) are likely negative the center likely positive (I say likely since + & - can be reversed) with the 2 each side of the middle being the AC input.

Selenium dioxide is produced. Not as bad as cyanide but not something you want to breathe for very long. Fortunately, the smell warns you fairly quickly.
