What is the NEXT BIG THING coming to Canadian broadband in your opinion?

Howdy all !

I've been a lurker for quite a while now and decided to make an account not long ago. I see that most of you are quite savvy in what has to do with the Telecom Scene in Canada (This is dslreports.com after all ).

So, I've been curious to know your opinion on this matter : In your opinion, what is the NEXT BIG THING coming for Canadians in terms of broadband, what is there to expect?

I'll lay my two cents by saying that I believe that IP TV has so much room for innovation that we are bound to see some changes in the market very soon: Much more accessible, increased affordability and more content.

What's your opinion on the matter?

The next big thing for me would be to get DSL or cable internet service.

FTTH would be great, but I am willing to take 5/1 over copper with NO complaints!

Only 4.9 KM away from a 7330 from the Bell side, but just not close enough..... and cable refuses to expand to me.

Next big thing would be to have high speed internet at my country house 1h away from Montréal... No cell reception, no high speed internet by DSL and an area owned by Eastlink who offers only analog cable in the village which is about 9km away!

Its already come and gone.

The next big thing imo is faster speeds and reversing computing and going back to a mainframe/dumb client scenario of years gone by.

The technology is there, it just has to work 100% of the time.

The "Next Big Thing" will be when the internet crashes and burns like when the box dropped in IT Crowd or Snake Plissken pushed the button.

Or, one can only hope that is what's next.

Welcome to the cloud.

Fuck the cloud. I'll store and maintain my data myself.

+2.. The closest thing to a cloud that I'll run is a NAS with the only Internet-facing use being smtp, to warn me in case one of my hard drives craps out

THE NEXT BIG THING is a super secretive project currently being tested cooperatively by all the incumbents, internally coined by the working group as the carrier pigeon based streaming initiative, and it is already on its way to our neighborhoods.

In all seriousness, I would be glad if something like a minimum of unfiltered 20/10 Mbps was set as an universal right for all Canadians with a rate that is pegged to the the true average cost of transferring 1 GB.

You laugh, but strap as many 64 gb microSD cards as you can on a pigeon, and you've got yourself quite a bit of bandwidth especially over sort distances!
