Yeah just experienced this a moment ago for about an hour and a half. Was at my wit's end trying to troubleshoot it until I ran a traceroute and realized it wasn't my end. EDIT, Apparently related - » arstechnica.com/security ··· eliable/ |

That was weird as first DNS went out for NON Oceanic TWC addresses but I could ping my DNS servers on Oahu. I could tracert to www.hawaii.rr.com with perfect trace. In other words, locally everything was ok but on Ping Plotter Pro utter chaos from Orange TWC where Hawaii lands to anywhere I tried and I had to know IP addresses as DNS was out. I also could not ping my backup DNS servers at Orange TWC or those at Level 3. I called Oceanic and got busy signals for over one hour then finally got a recorded message about a state wide internet outage.
I could trace to Google though by name (other sites only by IP address) but it is still all screwed up with extremely high ping and routing to NYC and Dallas and then to Hawaii ..way more hops than usual. Getting better finally just now.
The reports you link to give DNS errors. And Hurricane Electric is showing yesterday's reports so that is not useful. |

Mine was out since 4AM and just back up at 7AM *sighs* went thru the telephone thing 4x...with waiting 10-20minutes each time...ending with the dreaded 'unable to reach reps at this time, try again later' ! |

It was a core issue.
I noticed it wasn't working at home this morning. Got to work and our TWC link was down. And it failed to fault over to the TW Telecom (aka Level3) connection for some reason. I'm sure some folks will be looking at that. |

» www.latimes.com/business ··· ory.htmlTime Warner Cable had about 11.4 million residential high- speed data subscribers as of June 30 and about 550,000 business customers for its Internet services. Time Warner Cable recently agreed to pay $1.1 million to settle an investigation by the Federal Communications Commission into the company's failure to report a "substantial number" of network outages with proper documentation. Time Warner Cable admitted its failure to file the proper documentation, according to an Aug. 25 FCC order announcing the settlement and now-ceased investigation |

Yes, routing remains unstable. I have noticed that some sites with bad IPv4 routing can be reached via IPv6. |

Was up last night and noticed the outage. Initially the connection was just slow and problematic but then it got to a point my modem wouldn't connect to the headend and kept rebooting. It wouldn't assign me a dhcp address and showed no internet service. Glad to see it was fixed. I was having slowdown issues with the network in terms of latency with websites before but after the outage it all seems to be much better and the system looks like it was improved. Wasn't sure what happened and I unplugged modem and router and replugged it in later on and it worked. |

Difference here though is that this outage was during planned maintenance, so they do not have to report this to the FCC within 30 minutes as they planned the maintenance which could have caused an outage. Just like when an actual phone company has to do work on customer lines and cause an "outage" during a maintenance window, they also do not have to notify the FCC within 30 minutes. |

Time Warner Cable says outages largely resolvedsaid by »www.cedmagazine.com/news ··· solved-0
Time Warner Cable said Wednesday service was largely restored after a problem that occurred during routine maintenance caused a nationwide outage of its Internet service for hours.
The company says it is still investigating the cause of the problem, which occurred with its Internet backbone, the paths that local or regional networks connect to in order to carry data long distances.
The company says the problem affected all of its markets and started at 4:30 a.m. and was largely restored by 6 a.m., and updates continue to bring all customers back online. The outage sparked widespread complaints on social networks. (Bright House Networks also had an outage in its Central Florida footprint-CED.)
Tim Farrar, an analyst at TMF Associates said there are major outages of at least one telecom provider every year, although typically they aren't fully national.
"AT&T had a major outage back in April, Comcast had one last October. Verizon Wireless had several national outages on its 4G network back in 2012," he said. "Usually it is related to bugs in new technology, and occasionally to routine maintenance where someone did something wrong."[/bquote : |
