MS014-45 Fix?Got KB2993651 from Windows Update, it's probably MS014-45 fix from August Patch with 2 known issues left. » support.microsoft.com/kb/2993651Note: I didn't uninstall any of the 4 KB MS(KB2982791) recommended last week so if you have uninstalled some, MS might push more. Security Bulletin MS14-045 rereleasedquote: Every month for many years, weve released a number of updates focused on the continuous improvement of customers experiences with our technology. Historically, these updates happened at different times during the month, with the security-specific ones occurring on the second Tuesday of each month. Recently, to further streamline, we decided to include more of our non-security updates together with our security updates and begin the global release to customers on the second Tuesday of each month. I'm going to give it a pass for now as there's to many known issues with the KB. Can't afford any downtime or fussing with Online Support and MS Answers. |

The main page for the KB mentions you should uninstall the old patch, but then seems to imply that the only effect of NOT uninstalling is that it's still listed in the update list. Given that the vast majority of computers and users will know about the uninstall, I'm guessing there is nothing wrong with not uninstalling?
In a side note, does anyone know if Windows Update has the capability of uninstalling an update? Or is the only way to do that by essentially doing a new update? |

Installed on Windows 7 64-bit with no ill effects. Also left the prior update installed as there were no issues to report. All is well carry on... |

Win 8.1 update 2 x64
Installed straight from Windows Update. I had left all previous updates from this month installed as I wasn't seeing any dramatic affects of the kernel patch this month.

I had uninstalled the last update - started getting a BSOD this weekend (irql_not_less_or_equal) and immediately thought of the original update. BSOD continued though - turns out my BSOD would trigger whenever the PC entered sleep - had a few software updates that I had done and started tracking them down. Disabled sleep for the time being until I had some more time to investigate further.
Saw this new update today and decided, why not. Installed it without issue. Tried to manually enter sleep - no more BSOD either. Just re-enabled automatic sleep and will see how that goes.
However, I now have a new problem and have seen others report it as well - attempting to run Windows Update results in an error code 80246002. I've followed previous recommended actions for this error without success. There are other suggestions as well, haven't gone down that road yet...
Anyone who's installed this latest update attempt a Windows Update afterward?
Update - looks like that cleared itself up (I was thinking it might be an issue on MS's end...) |

Are those for the previous release? I think I will wait even though I have the old one installed. Why can't MS remove the old one to install the new one automatically? Sheesh. |

This is a fresh re-released Patch but with too many caveats. The bad patches are removed from the cycle. It's the one less the caveats that's the problem. See FAQ |

WU Components Updated |
MS also silently revokes your old Windows Update components and installs new. We've discussed this before over many threads. There was a time it was opt-in, now it sits there in wait and tells you "Windows needs update components to continue" ... |

Not having seen any issues, and not having fonts installed anywhere but the default directory, I decided to leave the old update in place, with no ill effects so far, though I'm always nervous when I reboot . Considering that the patch has a very nasty possible side effect of hiding windows, I'm going to wait. Has anyone here been bitten by the old update bug with BSOD after successfully rebooting more than three times? Hat the sword hanging over my head, but also hate the possibility that uninstalling the old one will cause a problem! |

I highly doubt any MS FixIt would fix this issue. Best bet is to NOT apply the update, for now. |

No Stop Errors on this patch, but apparently I just too note with Microsoft that this update which I have not installed currently now "BRICKS" Windows Update, some how the Hackers in Russia and China managed to hit a section of Windows that apparently might be more "Urgent" now than ever being 2 Bugs have been known to be hit by the Current and Replacement Patch,
L looks like this is not going to be a good time if you are on sites that Contain Spam Email and sites that contain iFrame Exploits, I am sure this problem may result in more computers getting infected because of this... |

Same issue on my Win7x64 system. I have tried all suggested solutions with no success. I even restored a complete system image from three days ago but the issue persists. Seems to be an emerging problem with many users. Tracking: Error 80246002 Windows Update Problem » windowsitpro.com/windows ··· Network)EDIT: This fix worked for me. I changed my ISP DNS to Google DNS. I had to re-hide previous unwanted updates and I think I will hide this MS014-45 update as well. » windowsitpro.com/users/b ··· campbellThe fix that has worked for numerous people on the MS Forums was to manually change your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google). |

said by Exidor: I will hide this MS014-45 update as well. Good idea - hiding the update until MS (unborks) this one, you may not want to do this at home. Although hiding updates doesn't seem to do much as they tend to get "woken" when WU is run, all the same. |

Well setting your DNS to Google 8.8.8.8 does fix the issue and go back and it's still broken and since then reports are saying it's working fine so who Borked the Internet DNS's was it Time Warner? And I can confirm it's working fine now without doing anything. TH |

What went wrong with Microsoft's August updates? - Buggy updates are certainly a problem, but the company's poor communication of the problems is an even bigger cause for concern. ZD Net's Larry Seltzer addresses some key points. » www.zdnet.com/what-went- ··· 0033089/ |
