You got that right. After 4 weeks of putting in 10 hour days at my job , including some 6 hour Saturdays and Sundays. Ouch. Happy Labor , or Labour Day all ! Now to go and clean out the garage a bit. |

The announcement at Neowin again is misleading as the release notes are BETA There may be a final sitting on the FTP but that's not a normal update process. My .02 |

Are you saying that Neowin copied the BETA release notes to that page, and that the final release notes are not yet published ? |

Don't stuff words or inferences where they don't belong ! Neowin is pointing at Beta Release notes as this is what this is. There are no release notes as it's not a final. The infernal engine is fetching nothing. I'll wait for Mozilla to announce it although Racerbob 's intentions are well appreciated. |

So we/they are even more premature than last time.
(I updated my other post to Bob to detail what I found at each link.)
Then I'll leave it all alone for a day or two.
Besides, it's the portable edition which interests me in the short term, and that will be after these anyway. |

Yep, it appears that the ftp has been turned off as I get a 550 on that. The links at Neowin and MajorGeeks still work. I have edited my post above to include only the NeoWin link. |

Interestingly enough, you can still grab the linux and mac versions via ftp, no problem... |

The MG link also gave me a 550.
Immediately afterwards, I grabbed all 3 at the Neowin links.
But what ARE they ?
Final, or are they Beta like siljaline seems to believe ?
This feels like deja vu all over again. |

Good question. But mine says what my screen capture above says. 32.0 , Up to Date, and not on the Beta release channel. |

It is final, unlikely to change between now and tomorrow's official release, though not impossible. Other sites are point to the latest release notes available which happen to be for the last beta release because the final release notes haven't been posted yet. Release notes do not equal release executables. They are whatever the About says they are. |

said by Racerbob:Good question. But mine says what my screen capture above says. 32.0 , Up to Date, and not on the Beta release channel. RECAP : [At the original time of this post,] your FTP link gives an error msg, and it does so, no matter how I get there. The link from the MG site gives same message. The Neowin site's links work. [At the original time of this post,] my other link to the Moz HTTPS/FTP site's folder for FF32 currently has the 'not quite ready yet' message. » ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozi ··· es/32.0/So what version are the executables from the Neowin site ? Is it normal for a 3rd party site to have the release downloads before any of the Moz sites do ? [We believe that we have figured out how, explained later during this thread.] Bob, did you get yours from one of your links, or thru the internal update of your installed version 31 ? |

The other sites got smart and downloaded the new release while it was still possible via FTP and are now hosting their own copies. |

I got mine from the ftp directory that I posted above and henceforth removed. I am not going to post a link here to the actual download to the executable because that is not allowed. Dave, see my private message to you shortly. |

Look, it's just not that big of deal and hardly worth all the effort you're expending. If you're worried about the source of the download, just chill and wait. If you're not worried about the source, download and install already. |

NeoWin is not hosting the file on their servers. |

I just checked and I agree.
There is a 'cdn' in the url.
I wonder whether that means Canadian ? |

Well lets just say that it is fun to play with the url. If it is shortened up, then it takes me right to the http site that tells me that I am using the latest version of Firefox. |

On one hand, I agree too, and I have no intention of installing it yet anyway. But I am more concerned about what the non-geeks who just found this thread or one of the download sites (by using Google) will do, and was trying to clarify for them what they would be getting, so nobody ELSE has any surprises. |

Another bit of trivia :
I have an install of FF 31.0 portable on my test PC, and it is not yet picking up 32.0 on a manual update check - though IIRC, that is normal behaviour at this point. |

I hear you there. Look, I am used to seeing the cdn in the address. I have the cdn site bookmarked as a matter of fact. Rest assured that this is the normal deal that always happens. Check past threads for other releases. NeoWin usually is the first to break the news followed by MajorGeeks. I have never seen the file change after installing a day before the official release has occurred. Internal updater in your FF31.0 install will not get the update right away also. |
