[Windows] Profile MigrationThis is just testing on my part at the moment, but I wanted to see what people use for Profile migrations after either 1) a domain migration or 2) migration to a new PC. I stumbled across Forensit, and the free wizard is doing what I want (I think). I haven't gone through everything yet. |

I've used Forensit for migration to new account on same PC, but not cross-pc. |

I use USMT, work pretty well. It can be overwhelming though, but i did use it on my Xp to Win7 transition and automated it with powershell for around 50PCs.
Edit: You can restore the profile to any PC, but for cross domain profile migrations you have to use ADMT. |

We use USMT. I have it setup with scripts so I can actually run it (savestate) silently on user's computers remotely to gather their data. When I lay down the new pc image (combination of MDT and K1000 appliance), the user's profile gets placed on the new PC with savestate.
It does take a bit to tweak the XML files and get your command line switches right for loadstate/savestate but once you do it's not like there is a lot of "upkeep" to it. Also, it's hard to beat free.
My previous employer used Migrate7 which could be considered easier to use (it has a GUI frontend); however, having used USMT and Migrate7 I personally can't justify the price.
Edit: I am not sure how well Migrate7 works cross-domain. I have no experience migrating profiles cross-domain with either product. |

For our migration to Win7, We used USMT integrated to SCCM, everything was automated. Depending of the migration type (refresh or replace), we used 2 type of backups: hard link and SCCM backup. Also, we ran manually a script for the laptop, because of encryption. |
