[HN9000] lovers of hughesnet: scottmeadeaddresed to scottmeade. my first reply message, intrest, question, whatever. in any forum, blog whatever this is, ever! i typed all this hit send, got a message, you are banned from posting until..whenever, whatever. what a sensitive computeried response. what gives? this will also be my last. stupid computer.
i signed up for this weird community get together just because of your reviews on hughes net. i am suprised at your service. not to mention unsuprisingly embarrased for the rude responses youve recieved. i wish i could apologize for strangers insults... nevertheless! i pay a large fortune for internet service through hughes net. they boast a 100mbps connection as is stated in my internet status window, always. the best speed test ive ever gotten was actual 1mbps average is .5mbps. i can send results for verification from the site but no one ever cares. besides the point. i do a lot of downloading and left florida and a 1gbps connection via fiberoptic and cable. actual average 10mbs. a gig file was mine in minutes. i really am complaining about my hughesnet yet im happy to have it. i live 14 miles up and through a mountain range. a cable is not in the future, at all, ever. i was baffled by the limits. and feel like a child sent to his room and restricted for going over my limit. ive since increased it to 300mb per day with a roll over daily maxing at 600. it has helped but im nearing 200 bucks a month, especially if i purchase a 16 dollar restore token! and i do! often!, i need my files. so heres how it happened. i was frustrated with hughes net and googled i hate hughesnet. the blogs, forums, dedicated hateing was inumberable! i learned nothing on how to get the best out of my hughesnet. then i typed in i love hughesnet and i found you. nearly the only one who does. so i ask you how can i get better speed! it takes me average 24hrs to download a gig file. is there a secret setting i can change somewhere? a rep i can sweet talk? anything? i have noticed the hard throttle i get when i exceed my usage. and the unthrottled when i havent, very little difference. i see that if i download at night during my unlimited hours it is even slower, yet at the minute it ends the speed jumps to record speeds and within minutes i have exceeded my usage, get hard throttled and drops down to 1 or maybe 3 kilobites per second. seriously. est time of arrival for file 3 weeks. its as if someone is sitting with a switch, knowing im asleep and cant stop my download so ill have a decent speed during the day for email and general. surfing. its so slow i shut it down and assume that makes hughes net happy and the dont have to let me use their precious electricity. it has to be a cost problem. i dont mind the hard throttle for exceeding i just want a fast speed always! ive got a brand new lightning fast computer, the fastest modem they provide. yet slower than dial-up speeds. you must know the secret to fast speeds after all you are the only lover of hughesnet ive found. let me in on your secret please! p.s. im copying and pasting this letter to hughesnet contact us, because i too wish to love hughes net! |

That's one way.. I remember getting to tier 3 is super hard but once you get that far, don't give up. They'll fix whatever is going on but it will only last a day or two and come back to haunt you but atleast they'll give you a token or two for free of charge (way of saying thank you for being a hughesnet customer). I would move back to florida if I were you and dump hughes before it's too late but if you'd rather raffle with hughesnet than to move back into something that is far more comfortable and not everyone in the world has, that's you're decision. I wished that I never did the upgrade to Gen4 when i left... I could have just waited a year and THEN cancelled it and moved to this awesome DSL. |

said by daveserious:they boast a 100mbps connection as is stated Hughes doesn't offer 100Mbps, ever, at all. That 100Mbps is your link to the modem, but the modem only communicates at a fraction of that speed to the satellite in space. As far as better speeds? Consider Gen4 from Hughesnet, or the competitor if you wish to keep a free nightly download period. Both have moved to MONTHLY data allowances instead of daily. |

Hughes will continue to cripple you until you upgrade to gen4 or leave altogether and go to a competitor. |

From my exp. and reading reviews and posts it seems to me that such blatant greed , disregard for decent service and lack of respect for customers would be sufficient to warrant FCC or more legal actions. I'd like to see them taken over or shut down. |

They should've never removed the umetered lnfz. There is no reason to limit usage during a period where the majority of customers are sleeping. It screwed with the few whom that had data requirements beyond what the lowly caps provided and utilized the unmetered period for downloads, updates and streaming. I'm surprised Hughesnet is not feeling the heat with customers migrating to Excede. It seems there's other benefits to going with Excede vs Hughesnet besides the lnfz. Some day I hope HN and satellite in general is made obsolete for residential home use with progress taking place to expand landline broaband to rural areas.
We recently found out we can get Lte through Verizon. I've been talking with my mother to dump Hughenet and go with Home Fusion once their contract is up. We've been talking about splitting the bill and me covering possible overages. I don't see them using more than 15GB to 20GB, I will be helping them monitor usage and keep it under control.
However this is tricky because something on my sisters laptop is a data hog and she won't let me look at it. Every time her computer is on there is a massive drain like losing over a GB per day. I've watched 100+ MB go down in fifteen minutes to a half hour or 50MB in ten minutes. According to her she isn't doing anything other than chat, looking at manga, tumblr.
You know kids today with horrible attitudes, lack of respect and short tempers the trivialist of things can set them off. My mother is afraid to ask her anymore to let me look at her computer or cut off her access. We can't explain anything or talk to her without her going into bitch mode and a yelling fit, she has a retort and answer for everything. She insists it's not her computer yet when it's on everything slows to a crawl even more so when fap'd. She shuts down and magically everything speeds up and loads fine.
I've been trying to devise a way I could remote access onto her computer without her knowing to fix the usage issue by removing or disabling whatever is causing such massive data drain.
Oh and I feel for those being screwed with by HN to upgrade. Speeds on Gen4 are good but the lack of the lnfz kills the potential as a viable alternative for home broadband. Caps haven't changed much in years with any satellite provider. Mobile data/lte is in the same boat and the only saving grace is higher speed and lower latency. All providers should offer unmetered off peak or late night data then rural broadband wouldn't be so ****. That's the way to go if they don't want to invest in the higher costs of expanding their landline infrastructure. |
