Re: Post your speeds for any time of the day for dsl and fios

Friday night around 8:30pm. We are in CT and part of the ATT --> Frontier changeover. This is from a wired connection.

Driving from Durham to Atlanta is 384 miles.
MrBungle87 is getting 18 ping to Atlanta.
(I am assuming he's in Durham because of his tag.)

Driving from Guntown to Atlanta is 290 miles.
jhejr is getting 23 ping to Atlanta.

Driving from Murphy to Atlanta is 118 miles.
I get 43 ping to Atlanta.

Do you get what I'm saying?
My physical location is closer yet I get higher latency.

Just because you are physically closer does not mean your packets will take a shorter/faster route.

Indeed, network topology does not equal driving geography.

They will keep selling connections on that RT till there's not enough bandwidth.

If you seen my post above that is now edited, it was a false alarm. Apparently not having you're connection plugged in all the way can cause bandwidth speed problems(possibly other issues too).

Just installed 24/2 VDSL2 service:

Modem is provisioned at 24/2, but I consistently get 12/1. Tech Support seems stymied as to why. Any ideas?

They fixed it:

Apparently, there was some kind of speed profile configuration set incorrectly.

Shouldn't a CO be feed with Optical Fiber?

yes it should be feed by fiber. my co is feed by fiber that allows up to 1gbps if they want to do fiber to the home but they only offer bonded dsl and vdsl. but t1's are very bad for a co t1's can only hold 1.5mbps maxed out it would be better for a little if frontier would feed the co's with a minimum of T3's which can hold a max of around 40-45mbps.

Internet is particularly bad tonight. This is on the 12/2 plan.

From what I understand there is still nothing to be done about congestion.
