Getting 401 Unathorized Error

Hello

I've got a friend who we're trying to help with her router setup. While online gaming it's showing it's at NAT 3. I believe it's a older BEFSR41. We've tried Admin>Password and she is getting a 401 Unathorized Error. She's tried Admin>Admin and Password>Password and no matter wht stills gets this 401 Error. I use to have a older WRT model and never had any problem getting in using Admin>Password. Can someone help me help her getting into her router.

I believe that you leave the username blank and put "admin" in for the Password field. See step 3 via the first link:

»kb.linksys.com/Linksys/u ··· eid=3676

»support.linksys.com/en-u ··· /BEFSR41

It also depends on how old the BEFSR41 is. PC or AC (Pre Cisco or After Cisco).

EDIT-I just did a factory reset and the user field is blank and as you said, the password should be 'admin'.

I couldn't get mine to accept anything in the user field to save my neck, mainly since the setup has no place to input one, only a 'change password' screen. There is no 'Administration-Management' screen. I'm using firmware 1.44.2z, Dec 13 2002 on a BEFSR41 V2, pre-Cisco.
