Fiber Without a Modem

I have CenturyLink Fiber (up to 1gbps, I currently have 40mbps) in my apartment building. In my apartment a CAT 6 cable comes out of the wall into a Technicolor C2000T modem that I rent from them. Now my understanding is this simply a router, since the actual fiber hookup and modem are in the apartment building's network closet, which would explain CAT 6 wiring into my apartment. I would prefer to use my Netgear WNDR4000 N750 router to handle the actual routing function so I can return the modem to CenturyLink. Is this possible? I would assume just connect as normal, type in the PPPoe login and away I go?

You are correct, for fiber service, it's just acting as a router.

In order to use your own router, you need to use VLAN 201 and your normal PPPoE login information.

more information is here: »FTTH router question and »VLAN Tagging on Tomato for FTTH

Good luck!
