K-Meleon - The Browser You Control v74.0K-Meleon resurrected. The newest version is based on Firefox ESR v24. For those less familiar with K-Meleon: Main difference between Firefox and K-Meleon is the absence of XUL. K-Meleon extensions are written in MacroLanguage. There is also a portable version you can test and play with. It's a very small community but people on the forums are friendly and helpful. |

Well I had an old profile hanging around and just extracted the new zip file into it......seems to work great. Doubt it will be a default browser but will work as a 3rd one. |

Good luck to whomever took this project over. I remember the original K-Meleon browsers, fairly zippy but they never gained a critical mass of users.
Mainline Firefox is dead to me in favor of Palemoon. I hope the new K-Meleon team listens to its userbase instead of ignoring them as is tradition with the Mozilla foundation. |

The new K-Meleon team is the old one Nobody took over the project. Dorian, the main developer and I assume the only real pro had no time. The rest of the team are a handful skilled enthusiasts but not professional programmers. As for the Mozilla foundation not listening to their userbase, they are still doing better than Opera Software. The latter killed most of its loyal userbase on purpose. Now they are nowhere in the desktop market. I hope Mozilla won't go as far because if they vanish than it won't be anymore Palemoon, Cyberfox or K-Meleon. Users would become googleized for 100%!!! |

Well I just hosed the new version.
On a restart it asked if I wanted these plugins and I said no....now it doesn't work properly.
Any idea how to get that box back that asks about the plugins...........this is unusable without it. |

This popup.........and 5 more after this one. Plus the tabs bar doesn't show even after a restart...........seems to be a few bugs. |

Did you download the portable from their page? Do you use an old profile from an ancient version? Bitmapped Menus (bmpmenu.dll, like other .dlls) are in the package (in the "kplugins" folder) and loaded automatically. Best thing, you make a fresh install. |

I'm running K-Meleon 1.5.4 on all of my computers as the browser I use to check how websites look without any personalized data changing their display, since I don't keep cookies for it and haven't modified the original installation. |

Layout and especially the scripting engine of K-Meleon 1.54 is obsolete. These are the major improvements in v.74 which is based on FF ESR 24. As for the weird version number "74", methink it's an ironic hint concerning a major browser producer from Santa Clara. Basically the version number should be 1.74 and not 74 |

Take care! Just got the information that some sites are offering K-Meleon for download via download manager which automatically install third party add-ware, if you don't chose the custom install. If you choose the custom install (most people unfortunately don't), you can deselect that crap. Best practice is to download software always direct from the source. |

Looks interesting. Does it have the capability of turning off images and scripts on the fly? Opera did allow turning off images on the fly, and Tab Permissions on Pale Moon does the same - along with scripts and Iframes. I simply don't want to see all of Yahoo's crap if I check groups. I like Yahoo groups. They are more like forums on web sites rather than social. |

Yes it has. Not only images and JavaScript but more items. You have to enable the privacy bar and leave it enabled. Toolbars can also be customised by editing the toolbars configuration file. |

+1 for the version inflation, I love the absurdity of it. I'll be installing this on my home rigs, choice is very good. Especially when we're in a world that is approaching browser monoculture (Mozilla Chrome Lite (aka Firefox), Google Chrome, Opera Chrome, or IE.....) |

Well this experiment didn't last long.........going back to my old version. It doesn't keep the settings and toolbars ,bookmarks and personal bar disappear everytime it's started..........too annoying. |

Sorry, I'm clueless what might be wrong at your end. What OS are you using? Minimal requirement for K-Meleon 74 is XP SP2. |

I've been using it a couple days now. Feels pretty light and snappy, much like previous versions. Still ugly as hell, too. |
