Windows 10 in the Enterprise

Yes its early i know but i'm wondering if any of you going to take a look at Windows 10 to replace windows 7?

With the clock ticking on windows 7 and a extended support date of January 14, 2020 i am hoping that this is going to be a better release than windows 8/ 8.1 was.

Microsoft stated that corporate Windows 10 users would be productive immediately due to a GUI that is very similar to Windows 7. If that proves true in trials, we would probably be adopting Windows 10 in 2019.

With all the Windows-reliant apps, is that going to be possible anytime in the near future? Not to mention idiotic users who will freak out if anything other than Windows is in front of them.

They're skipping 9 and going to 10. Expect the suck rule to still apply, Win9 should have been good, 10 will now suck.

We have not moved to 7 yet. They plan to, it might happen before mainstream support stops in January but I doubt it.

Don't you just love the cocksuckers in marketing that come up with this stuff, ten is the new nine.

Regarding the OP's question, I have given up hope for improvements and stability, rather MS will continue to tell/force users and administrators to adjust to how MS thinks an OS should work, and by that I mean they will continue to rip off ideas from Apple, Linux and others and try mixing them up in hopes that it will make a good product, or at least have marketing points.

no way, maybe some, but not the majority. i couldn't imagine if the company i worked at switched to linux. i'd rather give users w8.1 before linux.

News sites were debating yesterday / this morning that Windows 9 might be a free update to Windows 8 and Windows 10 will be the pay-for update.

Every administrator will certainly evaluate for the possibility.

Doubtful, they'll probably stick with Windows 7 like everyone stuck with Windows XP (and some still sticking)

I'd say Windows 12 will be out before we migrate to Windows 10 with the length of time it takes our vendors to support a new OS.

We still have production on Windows XP for crying out loud. And none of it is in jeopardy of going away anytime soon.

I don't think that will change, yest it will be incremented but I doubt they will match it up to the branding of the OS.

We have 3 users still on XP out of about 50. They can pry 7 from my hands just like they did with XP. Within a month those users will be upgraded to 7. I run 8.1 at home and the only way I can stand it is using an aftermarket toolbar.

I still have 2 2003 Servers that need to be upgraded before the July 14 2015 EoL.

The new OSes have some cool and neat features but nothing that contributes to the bottom line for us.

If you can completely get rid of the Microsoft Store and the terrible title interface, you'll see a 7 -> 10 jump... assuming all internal applications still don't require IE 6.

I've on Win7 since 2009. My job migrated over to Windows 7 about a year and a half ago.

IF MS really wanted to make a few bucks, they'd bring back Win 7 to retail sales.
Laptops with Win 8 are priced lower than those with Win 7...perhaps the most embarrassing thing about the Win 8 disaster.
I know....I just bought a 17-inch Dell with Win 7 and I deliberately filtered out Win 8 in their shopping tool.

From the reports I was reading yesterday Windows 10 will be the last major release of Windows. My first thought was, "Yeah, we'll see how well that goes." Only time will tell what the future holds. I don't see how anyone could make that statement unless Windows 11 is called Tiles version 1.

upgraded a win7x32 laptop to win10 preview and it is fast, all apps that were preinstalled worked like a charm, outlook 2010 did not lock up when accessing a very large exchange mailbox in cached mode with millions of items and deep nested folders let's hope the final release is this good.
