[Email/WebMail] Delayed emailHas anyone noticed a delay in receiving their email? I have had emails delayed sometimes by hours or days. Nothing has changed on my side of things. Same settings for years, using Microsoft Outlook software. |

yep, some emails go right through & some take hours to get received. It seems to be random too, no real pattern of certain times or senders. I'm just going to start using yahoo for my email, charter is to unreliable. Using mac mail 7.3 |

Yes! Oh my God. Charter email has been an absolute disaster for me lately - emails are sometimes taking up to 3 days to receive. Calls to Charter result in their admission they are "working round the clock to resolve this." It's been going on for months. Last advice was to use a different browser. Not sure that will affect the fact that emails don't come thru on my smartphone or outlook. Maddening! |

I'm surprised people use their ISP's email system. They're all bad. When you consider how great GMail is, anything else is second rate. |

Unlike others who have posted a reply, I am also using MS OL but I haven't noticed any delay.
Sorry can't be more help.

AT&T does not run their own email any more; outsourced to Yahoo! DSL Extreme has outsourced to Gmail. And my ISP email actually works quite reliably. |

Yes. As noted above, this has been occurring for the past few months. |

Does anyone know if Charter is working to fix this problem if it has been going on all summer? |

I'm surprised it took that many replies to hear some corn ball reply like that, especially emphasizing how "great" Gmail is! Gmail sucks a** I use all 3 of my Gmail accounts strictly for junk I send to myself, as that's what Gmail is, IMO. I do have to admit that at least I don't get 10 spams a day anymore in those accounts, finally. Considering I've NEVER used them for sending, I've often wondered why I ever got spam in those though? I use Thunderbird as my e-mail program and haven't had any issues with delayed sending times. Can't say as I use Charter's e-mail service as a regular, everyday e-mail service either though. FWIW, Just sent a test e-mail, with a 9MB file attachment to all 3 of my junk Gmail accounts and myself at Charter, plus a couple other junk accounts I have and it went straight through to everyone of them. Sorry not much help there. |

Your opinion of GMail that it sucks is formed by the fact that you don't use it and you use Thunderbird, which is not an email service, nor do you use Charter's. Great job.
otoh, I have three businesses I run, plus personal usage with my family and myself, all which use GMail exclusively for many years. GMail runs circles around anything you use or have "experience" with. |

what email service do you use/recommend that sum1 could try out? I don't like being tied to an isp based service due to changes if i move/switch providers . Thanks in advance. |

Just for clarification, I've not had problems sending email. The delays, in my experience, are in receiving mail.
For example, I check my email at least once a day. And it's not uncommon for me to check my email, and see that I've "received" email time stamped BEFORE the last time that I checked. |

I am not in the "Gmail sucks" camp; unless you count concerns that Gmail scans email to target ads in the webmail UI as, "Gmail sucks". But Gmail does nothing different than the other freemail services in that regard. OTOH, Gmail is not better than some other providers I use, including my own ISP. |

I don't like being tied to an isp based service due to changes if i move/switch providers All four of the major freemail services (AOL, Gmail, MSN, Yahoo!) are equally good, overall; if you are willing to overlook that they scan your email for key words to place targeted ads on the web UI. Google (Gmail) had, may still have, a free program where a user can bring a personal domain to the service; using Google mail servers for his DNS MX record. Fee services, such as Fastmail are very good, if you don't mind paying a nominal fee for the service. Email hosting for a personal/hobby domain is generally inexpensive. Other than Google, I don't know of such services for free. |

Yahoo! and MSN seem to be targeted more by "phishers". Based on reports of compromised accounts. I have accounts with both; even set one up with MSN as a sacrificial account; but, despite a very weak password, and a deliberate response to a "phish", the "phisher" did not take the bait. Yahoo!, especially (though I have never lost a Yahoo! account), seems to suffer compromises; to the point that they have implemented a very aggressive version of an anti-spoofing measure called, "DMARC". AOL, Gmail, and MSN also use it, but don't implement the "refuse on fail" option. All four have also implemented SPF, another anti-spoofing measure. |

I've never used Yahoo, but my daughter does, and when they were hacked last year, my main address got sold [worldwide it seems], because I began receiving spam for the *first* time ... at my Charter e-mail address ... which I've had for ten years. That's a pop address not web mail, and I had been able to keep it free from spam before, by using a Gmail account for online purchases, etc.. A throw away account as described by others. G-mail also blocks most spam mail for that address. I would advise anyone to use something besides Yahoo for their main account. I agree with Norman they seem to be targeted more by hackers. |
