[Game] Neverwinter Nights 1 [no expansion] Disk 3 errorWhen I try to install NWN onto my PC, [windows 8] the first two disks install perfectly. Then it asked me for the play disk, which I guess was Disk 3 as there were no other disks, and it infact was disk 3 when it loaded. I checked and there were minor scratches on all the disks, but the first and second ones had installed everything.
I then proceed to insert the play disk, and it just sort of stays unresponsive for a bit, until the "insert disk" notification goes away. No install thing comes up, and it usually keeps telling me to insert the play disk even though it is still in. About 10 minutes later, the disk finally loads, but it still doesn't respond and keeps asking me to insert the disk when it is still in.
Any ideas onto what the problem may be? |

I'm actually not sure... You could dig around and see if there are some no disc cracks floating around out there (pro-tip: there are) but my personal suggestion would be just to spend the $9.99 and get the Diamond version from GoG. » www.gog.com/game/neverwi ··· _edition |

Damn...last disc I used to play a game was for FEAR 2 probably 6-7 years ago. |

I haven't built a computer with a CD/DVD Rom drive in the last 6 years... |

I know...my new "rebuild" I just did I didn't even bother installing a CD Rom drive. It's just useless now days. |

Here's a question for both of you then:
I know most Linux distros can be easily installed by USB key, but what about Windows? Can you get the disk image onto a USB key easily enough?
Reason why I ask, is that I did have to re-install Win7 onto a machine with no optical drive a while back and it was a little annoying, if I recall there wasn't any easily available free software that would let me convert my Win7 image into something bootable from a USB key.

You can put Windows on a USB key just like you would any other ISO, AFAIK. |

All my latest Win7/Win8 instals were through a USB key.
Though I still have a disk drive in all my PCs, mainly to create backups and watch movies. |

in Windows I use programs like Alcohol 120% to mount the iso like a disc. |

I've got Windows 8.1 on a USB thumb drive. You just have to create an ISO image and have at least an 8gb drive. |

You don't just drag it, you use something like this: wudt.codeplex.com |

You don't even need to use that. You can use the Windows 7 download tool directly from Microsoft. It work on Windows 8/8.1 too. |

That is their download tool... they just link the download elsewhere, for some reason. |

I don't know. I threw my disk 3 (along with disk 1, 2 & 4) out a month ago and just picked it up from GOG on sale for super cheap. |

At the time I kept trying to do it with Unetbootin and I couldn't get anywhere, I ended up using something similar to wudt, but I wasn't aware wudt was freely available. I think I had it in my head that I needed to signup for technet or something so I didn't bother with it initially. |

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT THAT DISK 3!!! Guys...GUYS...GUYS!!!! LISTEN....seriously, wtf, man? I didn't sleep a fucking wink last night because this is floating out there, UNANSWERED, and you chuckle heads are in here discussing bootable windows installs off of USB Sticks? WTF MAN!!!>!11?11 Let's get some real discussion going on here. Ekster, any chance you might be able to go to your local dump and scrounge around for those disks? It could be our only shot here. It's a hail mary, I know....but sometimes, that's just what it takes. Crazy...yes....crazy enough to just might work. I'm calling BioWare now to see if I can get a developer on the horn. |

And he'll tell you a long and meandering trouble shooting list that will ultimately result in only three solutions and none of which will be worth two fucks. |
