I don't know if this applies to Windows (never tried it), but some systems have the ability to gracefully shut down a Linux program (in my case, a Linux-based firewall) if the Power button is momentarily depressed. I assume this feature is a function of the motherboard and is not related to which CPU chip is installed.
Without trying the actual system or calling the motherboard manufacturer, is there a way to know if a system has this capability? I suspect that the answer is "No", but perhaps there is a way.
Some motherboards have connections for a Reset switch, but this is not the same thing, since the Reset immediately shuts down the program without waiting for unfinished operations to complete.
