Due to outdated browser sniffing (user agent) by this site, I have been forced to FAKE Pale Moon version 25.0.1 as Firefox 25. This is the only way to get this site to auto load posts in the forums. I didn't need to do this with previous versions of Pale Moon because they all had "Firefox" in the User Agent string. Pale Moon 25 has dropped identifying as Fx and since this site is apparently flummoxed by this it has decided to deny Pale Moon 25 auto loading of posts. I didn't realize how much I have come to like auto loading of posts until suddenly I no longer had it and even though I would far prefer PM to identify as itself I want auto loading of posts even more. |
|
|
I am running Pale Moon Version: 25.0.1 (x86) and can't see any problems.
OTOH I am not quite sure what you mean by autoloading of posts??
All I can say is that the DSLR site works for me the same way it always has. |

The site no longer loads a reply like this one unless I hit the Refresh button on the browser. The site also no longer loads replies that others make to various posts by others or me in the thread either while I am reading the thread or not reading but have a tab open to it. It is irritating and means a lot of refreshing of the page many times that was not needed before with Pale Moon and still is not needed with Fx 24.7.2 ESR.
I have the 64 bit version of Pale Moon on Windows 8.0 Pro and Windows 10 Preview. This behavior is there on both OSes and was not there until I upgraded to 25.0 and then 25.0.1.
At first, I thought the problem was this site's gremlins acting up but then I realized it wasn't happening on Fx 24.7.2 ESR. I posted in Pale Moon's forum about it and was told to contact Justin and also told this site's admin should not be so backward as sniffing the User Agent is frowned upon these days (that may or may not be true but Pale Moon has obvious reasons to wish no site admin would sniff the user agent as doing so on Pale Moon 25 is causing a lot of problems on many sites since Pale Moon has dropped the Fx identification). |

FWIW, I think I posted earlier that my FireFox 24.8.1 ESR also displays new posts right away. Some of the recent difficulties encountered with the newest FireFox and/or PaleMoon offerings have increased my interest in SeaMonkey, and my effort/research in how to tweak it to look and behave how I want. And that effort/research has yielded some fruit. My thread of a few days ago, about the several smaller tab-related extensions which more-or-less replace Tab Mix Plus » [Seamonkey] Tab Mix Plus for SeaMonkey was one of the results, and just this weekend, I have discovered how to Hide the SeaMonkey Title Bar. I'll be starting a new thread soon about that last development. |

Thanks, you are correct. I tend to hit the refresh button subconsciously so I had not realised it. |

Good, as it doesn't bother you then like it does me and others who have commented about it. I had no idea I liked the auto loading so much until I suddenly didn't have it! |

Pale Moon is NOT Fx anymore. It no longer identifies as Fx in the User Agent string and has a long list of problems because it has become a true FORK with version 25. |

While you are technically correct, I submit that more folks would suggest that FIREFOX is not FireFox anymore, and that PaleMoon IS what we know as FireFox, at least when you look at the UI. And to be clear, people, I am NOT a fan of FireFox, though I have been a user on-and-off, during the 10 years and longer that FireFox and its predecessors have been around. I have also used Opera (up to version 11.x), and Internet Exploder (up to version 8), and still do use both of them sometimes. Chrome got a brief try, and was quickly yanked because it has no conventional legacy Menu bar. In more recent times, I TOLERATE FireFox, due to various unnecessary and arbitrary UI changes, the newest of which is of course the notorious Australis UI. Portable editions of PaleMoon (25.x) and SeaMonkey (2.30) are still being tested by me on my 2nd (Vista) PC, along with current Australis UI FireFox Portables, of both regular and ESR releases, and I am testing the Atom build of PaleMoon 25.x on my XP PC, where FireFox 24.8.1 ESR is my main browser. I would also try Matt Tobin's independently released PM flavour called ' PaleMoon for Windows XP', but am hoping/waiting for a Portable edition from him, for which I so far have asked twice and not been directly answered in the PM forum. |

Actually as long as Pale Moon keeps using Firefox source code, which is how they got started, its still technically an application built from Firefox source code with different branding. Once they create their own application then you can't call it Firefox any longer. |

I guess I should have said "Pale Moon is NOT Fx anymore PRACTICALLY SPEAKING". I cannot use this site any longer if I allow Pale Moon to identify as such as the site gets broken. If I install an extension like User Agent Switcher and have Pale Moon identify as Fx then this site (and others) work correctly.
Yes, in a theoretical sense, Pale Moon is still built to a large extent on Firefox code but even that is changing and that is why Pale Moon no longer identifies as Fx in its User Agent string. The only reason Pale Moon continues with Fx code is for extension compatiblity but that is changing also. |

So you have Pale Moon 25.0.2? I know the dev has announced that Pale Moon will again identify as Fx but when I check for updates none are found. So, where did you get this latest version? |

New Pale Moon update should fix some of what you mentioned: 25.0.2 (2014-10-24)
This is a small update to address a number of teething problems with the new milestone release.
Fixes/changes:
Added a "Firefox compatibility mode" selection in Options -> Advanced.
This mode is enabled by default (reluctantly so), because too many websites (including some very big players who, themselves, promote an Open Web...) still use very poor browser detection methods based on arbitrary User Agent string comparisons, not catering to alternative browsers, and the resulting user experience being poor (being presented with mobile site layouts, broken pages, or even being flat-out refused service because someone exercises freedom of choice for web browser used). This should alleviate most, if not all, issues with browser-discriminating websites.
...
Disabled SSL 3.0 by default (to put a muzzle on the POODLE).
Please note that this may cause issues with some poorly configured web servers (usually ones with a hopelessly broken security setup that do not support TLS 1.2 or secure (re)negotiation of the protocol).
Fixed add-on update issue (that was preventing update checking through addons.palemoon.org).
Fixed the redundant redundancy in asking redundantly if the browser would be allowed to ask to install an extension when not on addons.mozilla.org.
Fixed the internal UA-sniffing insanity that broke devtools in a few different and colorful ways. |

Thanks! I checked earlier today and last night looking for this but nothing the times I checked. I got it just now. Let's see if this post auto loads.
Edit: Yep. It loaded very smoothly and very fast ....much better than when I was using an extension to make the user agent Fx 25. |
