[PBX] Switching from PBX in a Fask to FreePBX: setup questions...

Hello:

I would like to setup FreePBX on a Digital Ocean DropLet.

What I would like to ensure is that I set it up securely.

I will be using it with my home Anveo, CWU, GV & voip.ms accounts for personal use and testing/learning for a possible small office implementation.(10 to 15 users)

Advice, links or thoughts concerning the initial setup on the Droplet would be appreciated.

Thanks,

nunya

PIAF already has FreePBX. It's like switching from a GMC Sierra to a Chevy Silverado.

Thanks nunya.

But doesn't FreePBX *** NOT *** include PIAF?

Would this fact, if true, not provide a better 'asterisk learning vehicle'?

As my avatar indicates, I might be confused...

PIAF includes FreePBX.

FreePBX does not include PIAF.

Maybe I should be asking this:

On a Digital Ocean Droplet, which PBX software would provide the best PBX-Cloud learning experience?

Thank you.

PIAF is simply FreePBX with some extra features tacked on. I find those extra feature beneficial and desirable. As far as core Asterisk operation is concerned, there's no real difference.

Thanks RonR.

So, would be installing straight Asterisk be the way to go?

Straight Asterisk has no GUI interface for configuration. All configuration must be done by knowing what files to edit and what lines to add/change in them. There are also features implemented in FreePBX/PIAF that you would have to design and code yourself if you want them.

I highly recommend installing PIAF. I started out with the intention of doing everything myself in raw Asterisk, but after a couple of weeks decided I was unnecessarily re-inventing the wheel. Configuring PIAF is very easy through the included FreePBX GUI.

I don't know much about what is a GMC Sierra or Chevy Silverado. Do they have FXO ports?

Sure. They connect to the phone line via Bluetooth and your cell phone, using the car's mic and stereo system for the voice path.

If you install the latest release of Incredible PBX for CentOS or Incredible PBX for Ubuntu, neither includes PBX in a Flash. They both are pure Asterisk 11 and FreePBX 2.11 with IPtables firewall security enabled with a WhiteList. This sounds like the learning platform you are after and works great on Digital Ocean with their prebuilt CentOS 6.5 or Ubuntu 14 droplets.

So, no FXO port?
