I'm in Staten Island, NY, and when I sign into Verizon, that category is missing underneath "TV EQUIPMENT & OUTLETS". |

Is there any reason for me to pick up this new router versus just getting an ECB 2500?
I currently have a Rev F Actiontec bridged with my primary router (R7000) via a LAN-to-LAN config. I'm only using the Actiontec for VOD and guide info.
I guess my more direct question would be: is the MoCA 2.0 on the quantum worth it? |

Hey shmee, I'm also using the Actiontec only for its MoCA capabilities. However I have multiple Actiontecs being used for bridging. (I simply can't run Cat5e where coax is already run.)
In your case if you don't have multiple MoCA 2.0 devices on the network there's no reason to get the new router. Also, I don't see any need to replace the Actiontec with an ECB2500. |

Gotta love Verizon. "Hey! Let's push this new quantum router with MoCA 2.0 capabilities. Who cares if none of our STBs can take advantage of the new spec." My bad. |
|
|
I thought the Quantum STBs (VMS and IP STB) had support for MoCA 2.0? |
|
|
The Quantum STBs do support MOCA 2.0. Since shmee referred to having the rev. F, I was pretty sure he didn't have the VMS. said by shmee:I should have thought my question through before posting. Better to realize it now, than after ordering. |

ONT's arent even moca 2.0, but they are coming according to the tech who replaced my ont a few weeks ago. Of course new customers will get them. |

I would definitely ask. You have 30 days (typically with Verizon) to change your mind. |

Re: Quantum Gateway Router Bad News, Good NewsConsidering replacing my Actiontec router with the Quantum Gateway. Can anyone report on the performance of the Quantum Gateway with regard to speed and signal strength? |

Re: Quantum Gateway RouterI see that the troubleshooting page for this new FIOS Quantum Gateway (router), simply talks about it being dual-band. Do we have any confirmation that it is, in fact, 802.11ac capable? And if so, how many antennas / spatial streams? Is it 867Mbit/sec, or 1300Mbit/sec?
I have a Rev. F Actiontec, and a secondary AC1200 router. I've recently upgraded to 802.11ac on most of my devices. TBH, I don't see that much improvement over 2.4Ghz N300. In fact, it seems less stable of signal, even just going to the other room.
My Rev. F is stable, if slower. It would be nice if the new FIOS Quantum Gateway was 802.11ac capable, AND stable. |
|
|
According to the specification page from the manual, it's 802.11b/g/n/ac and 1300 Mbps. No mention of number of antennas or streams. » [Networking] New Verizon FIOS Quantum Gateway User Guide for Model FIOS-G1100 |

The trouble shooting guide does not state if the new router is AC but the pdf which was posted earlier does and stated that the AC is rated up to 1300 Mbps. It is also clearly stated that it is MoCA 2.0 capable. As far as stability is concerned, at this stage, it is too early to determine. Likely there will be some issues, hopefully resolved with new firmware upgrades. This is part of the reason for the phased in releases. The guy who I talked to a couple of days ago expected a gradual release in the next 4-6 weeks assuming no major issues showed up. He suggest checking your account for available upgrade options as this is the first place availablity is likely to show up. More Fiber is correct about the lack availability of MoCA 2.0 devices. This may be for the Wan side at first, which should allow coax installs for even greater internet speeds and for use with Verizon's newest DVDR's, but I don't know if the new equipment is MoCA 2.0 capable or not. If you are hot to get one, keep checking your equipment options in your account. |

Re: Quantum Gateway Router Bad News, Good NewsCan you confirm whether or not the router supports "guest" access?
I'd have no problem buying this router if it did. |

My understanding is that Verizon routers do not support "guest" accounts. The closest I can come is this workaround article. » everydaylife.globalpost. ··· 285.html I've looked on the Quantum Gateway router's web page and can't see any reference to any "guest" account |

Looks like a huge upgrade for those bridging over coax.
Definitely has issues though. When I click on "User Guide" I get: "Warning: You need to be connected to the internet to view the User Guide"
Likewise with NTP. The router just plainly refuses to "connect out" over any interface but WAN which is disabled.
There also doesn't appear to be anywhere to update the firmware. The manual refers to a firmware option that's not available. It looks like you now HAVE to connect the router via the WAN and cross your fingers that Verizon pushes firmware. No way to upload it manually.
