[Cable] Electronic Box me surcharge/Electronic Box is overcharging me

I just received my September bill and saw my internet consumption was overcharged (I have the 500 GB plan/month). I quickly check their website tool that displays my internet consumption (support -> Cable Internet usage – Quebec) and it states I used 524 GB in September! »imgur.com/BjnbXJY,QQMeRKe#1

If I pressed the bottom button that shows my internet consumption in the past months, it will show that I used up 384 GB in September (this is the tool EB sent me to use when I first joined them)! »imgur.com/BjnbXJY,QQMeRKe#0

I called their CS to contest the bill (and point out both the tools used) and the rep repeatedly said that they will charge whatever tool is used on their main website (they want to charge me for 524 GB). I asked to talk to the supervisor and the lady said a supervisor will call back within 48hrs. Supervisor couldn't contact me so he sent an automated mail to contact EB to "close my account" (clearly didn't get the memo from CS)! I sent the supervisor a reply to contact me on a private number.

I have never had any problems with the ISP until now and it would not surprise me if they don't call me back to discuss the situation. What should I do if they don't call back or if they do and still want to charge me for the 524GB bill? g"?

Thank you.

===================

Merci.

Hello esugdiwun,

We are aware of your situation and worry not, this is nothing we are unable to help you with. If anything regarding over-usage or billing seems a bit confusing at all, you will be able to discuss it with one of our supervisors today. We are planning to contact you in the next few minutes in order to fix this situation. Just be aware that nothing has been charged to your account so far for this over-usage fee; it shall remain uncharged until we untangle everything with you over the phone. We understand that sometimes tracking internet usage can be riddled with guesses and hunches, which is why we are now providing our clients with the most precise tool to track their usage with ease! If you were to miss our call, feel free to email us at '' escalations@electronicbox.net '' or give us a call back! Meanwhile, have a wonderful day!

Best regards,

Stupid question... if the tool is no longer valid, why can customers still access it? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding the situation?

to view previous months. I think once we have a 3 month history on the new tool the old tool will disappear

@ Lubomyr

Bonne chance!

But surely they can display the history while preventing people from using it to get a "current" total?

IIRC the old tool is 100% run by videotron, with videotron taking care of the modem polling and running the site that you use to access your info, so ebox don't really have control over that.

No, what they are referring to as Tool 1.0 is the first apparition of THEIR tool, which calculated things using a different algorithm and it definitely wasn't as precise as Videotron's counter, even less the 2.0. This newest version, though, is more precise than Videotron's, because it even removes bandwidth that does not get IN your home network. So you actually get a little more for your money (and also updates every hour compared to every day).

Are you sure? Because in the OPs post he has screenshots of videotron's tool (also found here: »extranet.videotron.com/s ··· nput.jsp)
He also mentions that that was the tool he has been using with electronicbox ever since he joined I don't believe that the tool you are talking about was ever even seriously used to calculate and bill users.

You might be still be right though, but I didn't even know that that tool was still available.

Oh you're right. It's true that the 1.0 tool was never actually used for billing.
