[Networking] Cannot seems to port forward correctly

Hi Everyone,

I have the mi424wr revision 1 router for my verizon fios 75/75 internet.
Hooked up to the mi424wr I have my ASUS n66u wireless router.
By following this guide: »How-to: make ActionTec MI424-WR a network bridge
I was able to get it to work.

However, when I go to try and portforward a port (lets use 6112) and I go test it, it still says the port is blocked! I really don't know what I am doing wrong..
1)My laptop is the laptop I want to have the port opened for
a)Set up a static IP on the laptop(192.168.2.102)
-I know this isn't the proper way of doing it, since I still have DHCP enabled, but it will work for now.(?)

1)On the mi424wr I have the firewall set to minimum
2)Wireless on the mi424wr is disabled
3)Using the 5GHz band on the n66u for my laptops wireless connectivity
4)On the n66u portfoward page I am inputting my static IP of my laptop of 192.168.2.102
5)By using any of the online port checker tools, they all say the port is closed

What else do I need to do?

EDIT: ok. so all the port check websites( and portforward.com) all say the port is closed, but when I actually tested the port in game, people are able to connect to me.. Meaning it is working??? Im confused..
Thank you,
Labarr

It sounds like its working if people are able to connect to you in game.

I think your port forward tests are not working because your computer will only respond to that port when the game is open.

Bingo.

For a port to be open, something has to be listening.
