Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2952664) failed due to Code 80242016 on two/2 of my updated 64-bit W7 (EE and HPE) SP1 machines.

Anyone else? Nothing broke that I can see. And there are no updates to download and install even the one that failed. Huh? Did it work or not?

I've updated three Win 7 64 bit machines so far and haven't had any failed installs. All three had 19 updates.

I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, rebooted my machine. Seems to work now. (Windows Home Premium 7-32bit).
Windows updates have been rather buggy lately, haven't they? Hm...

I forgot to mention. Did anyone's W7 reboot twice? One of my W7 machines did. The other one didn't.

Anyone else get offered the W10 Tech Preview when manually checking for updates?

Only saw it on a Windows 7 test install (not activated) and they nicely set it to opt-out.

No wait, not nicely...what's the word...

I got the same thing. Unchecked it for now (opted in to the preview but had a different system in mind to try).

It took 2 windows updates check and 2 reboots to install them all in the end.

Make that 3 searches for windows updates and 3 reboots.
Plus a screen of "windows update failure, undoing changes" after the second reboot.

Win 7, 32-bit. 19 updates. Had dual-reboot. Listed KB2952664 as failed. But rerunning update check shows I'm up to date?

The KB2952664 appears to be a rerun.

Same thing for me on Windows 7, 32-bit. Mine says failed, but it says installed in the Windows updates in control panel. Even though it said failed after the update I'm not getting an option to install again. I also had to reboot twice.

Haven't run mine yet as the PC's been AWOL.

I'll think I'll wait for another day to run my borks.

One user I know reported a BSOD post patch.

All updates installed normally with no anomalies to report on Windows 7 64-bit. "2" restarts were required... no failures or further updates offered after further scanning on Windows Update. All is well!

Uhhh.... wow.
That looks messed up?
Why in the world would that be offered through Windows Update?

Interesting.

So then what happens to those that are keen but have no idea of how to maneuver around the system and just think it might be 'pretty'
Then Win 10 is released?
Will Microsoft update then revert back?
Will they then release Win 10 to Win 7 and Win 8 users via updates?
The /buzz has started.

I have one computer that has now twice done something odd on the reboot after a Windows update patch Tuesday.

It's a Dell Optiplex 790, running 32-bit Win 7 Pro. For this month's update, it did the dual-reboot. On the second reboot, it appears to have gone into sleep mode just before the graphics are fully enabled (the aurora screen). The power light starts flashing. When I hit power, it then continues, but the screen just has a graphic about 'interactive login failure', and the mouse/keyboard do not work after I click 'OK'. I just let it sit until the disk activity settled down, then did a forced power shutdown. It then booted up normally.

Nothing obvious in the event viewer. There is a note when I took it out of sleep showing it was taken out of sleep, and when it went into sleep. Nothing obvious in the log at the sleep time.

Anyone else see this before?

Some advanced users may want to avoid this KB for IE11 as it is a browser enhancement for dummies that you would never use - based on feedback from elsewhere.

I went into programs and uninstalled that update. Then I ran Windows Update again and it was installed correctly. I don't know that it was necessary, but it made me feel better. All three Win 7 systems here failed on that update, but nothing similar happened to the Surface Pro 3 (Win 8.1).

Thanks for the info, will give that a try.
