I agree with dave. DOF is just a measure of how much of the scene is in acceptably sharp focus. This can be narrow or wide, depending on many factors like focal length, aperture and camera to subject distance.
As a rule, the narrower the aperture and the shorter the FL the greater the DOF. Here is a good article to help you understand how all this works »
