FIOS app on Samsung TVWe have the FIOS app on two Samsung TV's.
One TV gets a wifi signal the other is wired.
Last several days, while the wired TV is loading FIOS with no problem, the wifi TV can't seem to detect the network, it just stays on that "detecting network" screen.
Every other function needing the wifi connection-browser, HBO Plus, Youtube, etc.-works fine, so it doesn't seem to be a wifi issue.
Just in case is was corrupt, deleted and re-installed the FIOS app. No luck.
The app is useful when recording two shows and wish to see a third live. Any ideas? |

I have the same issue with my Samsung TV. Exactly as you described. I even tried plugging an Ethernet cable into the TV and still had the same issue. I tried contacting Verizon, and they sent me a new router. Still didn't fix the problem. Not really sure who else to contact for support. The app was my primary means of watching TV and without the app the TV is pretty much useless. |

Can you describe your setup? I had issues initially when I added another router was on a different subnet than the STBs. |

Nothing special. All FIOS equipment. Wifi set up for the TV that is not connecting [only] the FIOS app to the network.
Has been working as is for more than two years.
I don't know if there is any connection but just hours ago I discovered that I can't reach my DVR from either the FIOS app on my phone nor from my FIOS account online.
Two weeks ago I had a total (TV, Internet, phone) outage for nearly three days. [Another issue, I was promised a credit that nearly two weeks later doesn't yet show.]
Tech discovered if was an issue at a central box and 16 other costumers were affected. All services came back after his fix.
I don't remember if we used the FIOS TV app after that event. I just know that I couldn't get it to connect starting three days ago.
I don't know what, if anything, related above is the cause or effect of the problem.
Have re-booted the DVR, the modem, no change. |

Good point about second router. Smoothest sailing is to add routers in "bridge mode" when extending your home network.
Most things work if you connect a router's WAN port to the FiOS router. Problem is, the second router thinks your FiOS home network is the Internet and blocks some traffic and handshakes for devices it connects.
To get Bridge mode:
Almost all non-Apple routers: Before attaching the new router to your home network:
1. With your computer attached to the home network find an available network address. Ping 192.168.1.253. If you don't get a response, then that number is available. If you get a response, try 192.168.1.252 and keep going down. Note that number on a post-it attached to the new router - it's how you'll find it in the future.
2. Disable wireless on your computer, attach it to the new router and power up the router. Do not attach the new router to your home network. Browse to whatever address the new router's set-up instructions specify.
3. Use advanced LAN configuration screens on the home router to:
3a. Configure wireless to your home standards. For seamless wireless roaming, set all your Wi-Fi base stations to the same network configuration - network name, security scheme (WPA 2 only strongly recommended for security & speed) and password.
3b. Optional - if your new router wants to use a time server, tell it to use the FiOS router 192.168.1.1 - couldn't get anything else to work.
3c. Set new router's LAN address to the 192.168.1.25x number on your post-it from Step 1. Subnet mask is "255.255.255.0. Router & DNS addresses are 192.168.1.1. If your router wants a restart to complete the step, browse to that new address to complete configuration.
3d. Disable DHCP on the new router.
3e. Restart the router if the final configuration change does not trigger a restart.
4. Your new router is now ready to be a good home network member. Anything attached to that router will have the same network address as devices connecting directly to the FiOS router.
5. Use one of the LAN ports on the new router to attach it to your home network. The WAN port should remain empty.
6. Do not worry if the new router shows "No WAN connection" or "No Internet" warnings.
Apple AirPort:
1. Follow Steps 1 & 2 above.
2. Open AirPort configuration utility, find the AirPort, click on Network tab.
3. Set Router Mode to "Off (Bridge Mode)".
4. On Internet tab, set Connect Using to "Static";
4a. IPv4 Address is the number noted in first step.
4b. Subnet mask is "255.255.255.0. Router & DNS addresses are 192.168.1.1.
4. Save the configuration.
5. Attach the AirPort to your home network with either the WAN or LAN port(s). |

I complained on the FiOs Facebook page. No response yet. Something changed on their end. My setup worked perfectly for the past year, and I didn't change anything. |

Suggest you open a thread on the Verizon Direct forum. |

I don't know if it's related but I noticed yesterday that I could not access the DVR from the FIOS app on my iphone. I then checked my account at their web site and from there too I could not access my DVR.
Any of you guys experiencing the TV problem also have the same issues connecting to your DVR? |

Well, it appears that this is not an isolated problem. The Samsung app (on a Blu-Ray) worked on Monday eve (10/13) but has been blotto since. The symptom is that it hangs on the "Detecting Network" screen and will not connect. I'd made no changes to my network from Mon to Tues.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, reset the player, checked on the firmware version, etc. - no joy. Other apps work fine.
I opened a dialog in the V* Direct forum but they have no idea what is happening either. I got some sort of a stomach bug on Fri and have not had a chance to pursue it any further. It looks like at least one other person has contacted them as well. |

Long time with support and can't find anything wrong.
Tech was able to get my iphone to see the DVR but the app's function as a remote control does not see my STB/DVR no matter what was tried and the Samsung app on the TV still does not detect the network.
Pointed the Tech to the others here having the issue and a ticket will be opened to find out what's happening. |

I have the same issue. I have 2 Samsung TV I had the Fios App installed and both TV it gets stuck at detecting network... |

Write in Verizon Direct. Contact in other ways.
Mention issue is affecting others.
The more people contact, maybe the quicker the solution. |

There seems to be an ongoing issue only with Samsung and the FIOS TV APP. Some update Samsung did. Is it still not working? |

It's Working For Me...I just tried running the app on my Samsung plasma tv, and had absolutely no problems connecting. It worked fine! |

As of Wednesday afternoon the app is still not working on my Samsung which is connected to the network by wire. According to the TV's Network Status screen accessible from Menu, the set is getting the network with no problem. All other apps requiring access to the network are working just fine. The network status screen says that if an app is not working to contact my ISP. Hope this issue gets resolved soon, since the FiOS app was one of the reasons I bought the Samsung. |

It appears that they would have me, almost completely, muck up my network (DNS, and other parameters) to do diagnostics for them. I'm going to reinitiate the chat with them (after a belt of Scotch - it's after Noon, y'know) but I'm not holding much hope. This after I told the rep that I'd gone through a crap-load of resets and player system checks already AND that I'm not the only one with the problem. They're not going to admit that there may have been changes made that had an impact on the FiOS app... Ugh! The other thing I noticed is that the update date for the app I can D/L onto the player, via the player's interface, is Feb, 2013. The update date for the app, shown on the Samsung website, is Mar, 2014... Go figger... Also, the app says it supports my device. |

I responded to the Tech in Verizon Direct that I assume Verizon wants the app to work or it wouldn't be available and that FIOS and Samsung should discuss the issue and find a solution. Between the two of them it shouldn't be difficult to make something work that worked just a couple of weeks ago.
More than twenty four hours later, no response. |

Well, I just spent about two hours with a Samsung chat rep. We went thru just about everything we could, including completely reinstalling Smart Hub (dumps all the apps, resets the link to the Smart Hub server at Samsung, reloads the base set of apps, etc.). After going thru all that, all the other apps I use worked as before - the FiOS TV app did not. It still hangs on the detecting network screen.
He talked to his upper tier tech people a couple times, was diligent in his approach and did not try to blow me off. I must admit, he did NOT fess up to there being any changes at their end (just never answered the direct question - like political candidates in a debate). Nor could I get an answer as to who is responsible for the app maintenance.
I don't know how many ppl are affected by this problem but, if it's not 100s, it may be a long time in getting fixed. I'm sure as heck not investing in another STB to get around the issue.
It's frustrating that no one seems to know what the hell happened in that overnight period last week. |

I really appreciate your effort with Samsung. Hope it does some good, wherever the source of the problem exists. The screen on my app shows version 1.0304, update 2012/12/20. Is there a mechanism for downloading a newer update? With the other Samsung apps, if there is a newer update available, we are requested to update them when we open them. This has not happened for me with the FiOS app. |

I don't use it terribly frequently (although, it's more than just a few hours per week in the man cave/office - I work at home, late and use it to keep me from nodding off). But, I use it enough that I do miss it. It was/is worth it to me to try to see if I could do some prodding... |

I just checked, and the same thing is occurring for me, as well. It is stuck in an endless loop on "Detecting Network." It has always worked flawlessly every time before.
I have a 2012 Samsung, and though I did use the app earlier this month with no problems, this needs to be fixed. I can not tell you if the App suddenly got unsupported, or it is a major issue that VZ does not know about.
I can tell you, the issue is the same with my sisters 2011 Samsung TV where lives. She also has FiOS.
P.S. I can also say that my Samsung is running the latest Firmware, etc. So it is up to date. Same with hers. Every app is working, such as HBO Go, Amazon etc. Just not the FiOS TV App. |

I get a message telling me I need to do an update via the menu or the Samsung website, but when I try to update via the menu, it tells me I already have the latest. |

Working Fine For Me...I just checked the version of the FIOS app on my 2013 Samsung plasma tv, and it says "Build 1.0.36". This app has always connected for me. It has never failed. I'm wondering if certain builds of this app are only meant to run on certain smarthubs of Samsung tv's? So loading my current FIOS app build on an older Samsung TV may be impossible due to hardware incompatibilities. |
