Re: FIOS app on Samsung TVAdding insult to injury.
For two days now, getting an automated call from Verizon every few hours.
Asked if issue was resolved: press 1 for yes, 2 for no.
After I press 2, voice says transferring to agent. Then total silence. Tired of it after some minutes, never mind that the time is inopportune, so hang up.
Repeated hours later. |

I too have observed the unresponsive FIOS TV app on my Samsung TV, failing at "detecting network". I just posted on the Samsung TV Facebook page, asking for acknowledgement that Samsung is aware and investigating. |

Just talked to a Verizon rep. A Samsung firmware update from early October causes this issue. It has to do with an authenticati n certificate. Samsung and Verizon supposedly working on it...No ETA |

I do not allow the player to update automatically but I check relatively frequently and do it manually. Whatever happened occurred between 10/13 and 10/14. If it is a software update on their servers, I'd buy that but I do not think it has anything to do with changes to the firmware or app on any Samsung devices that worked previously and have NOT been updated recently. I do seem to recall a similar issue with authentication on HBOGO and MAXGO, quite a while ago, but that was fairly quickly resolved. |

The Fios app on my Samsung TV stopped also. Right about the same time Verizon did the change to give me matching upload and download speeds. But of course, they say it can't be that. |

Did you all miss the post by Eyal? That is the cause, not what you are speculating. |

Thanks PJL, But what I still do not understand is: If this is the case, why are TVs that are older (2011,2012 etc) that can not get new Firmware that was released earlier this month. Basically, shouldn't the older TVs not be affected by this? and therefore. the app should still work? |
|
|
All this is really strange. Not sure who to believe. I have no problems getting the FIOS app to work on my 2013 Samsung plasma tv. It has the latest firmware installed (for my tv). Every Samsung tv model has its own unique firmware. Some folks are upset because the FIOS app for their older model samsung tv's that don't have this updated firmware (the firmware with the unauthenticated certificate) are still left wondering what the problem is. |

I've taken to trying to run it every evening. That's how I'll know it's started working again... |

I have 2 Samsung smart TVs where FIOS app doesn't work at the present time (and it worked before).
Also have 1 older Samsung Blu-ray player where it worked before & it doesn't now.
Kicker is that I have a newer Samsung Blu-Ray player that FIOS TV app is still working at the present time.
All this is on the same network.
In the past when I would switch to the different FIOS network where I don't have TV service - "Detect Network" would stop quickly & tell me that I don't have TV service & I can't use the app until I subscribe. Now it just spins "Detect Network" & it never stops (until I manually exit FIOS TV App). So it is something wrong with FIOS TV App "Detect Network" code - because it doesn't proceed on FIOS network which HAS TV service & it doesn't kick me out on FIOS network which DOESN'T have TV service (as it used to)
Too late to look up TV/BluRay model #s. If someone is still interested I can post them tomorrow. |

Still not working for me either. Really frustrating, and no response from Verizon at all. |

Another observation:
FIOS app on my neighbour's Samsung Smart TV (model H) still works. I already reported above that FIOS apps on my Samsung TVs (models ES) still don't work.
Strange is that older model TV still works, while newer don't (even though they both worked fine before).
All this testing was done on the same exact FIOS network connection. |

Still not fixed. This sucks. I bet you Samsung and Fios are going to drop the App from the TV like they did on the Samsung Blu Ray players. |

They did not drop the app from their Blu-Ray players (at least not yet). If you check, you'll see that there are a couple dozen players on the compatible devices list for the app. Plus, it is still shown as available for download when I go to the app store icon in my player's SmartHub. |

Same problem here. A month ago I bought a Samsung TV specifically to use the Fios app and it worked for a week. Very frustrating. |

Hmm. Hasn't worked on mine for Months. This'd explain why. And there's no ETA? Maybe if we all bitched a bit harder at Samsung and Verizon, a fix would be faster. |

I tried encouraging Samsung to work with Verizon to get this problem solved. This is the response I received: As all the apps work on the TV and the issue is with only FIOS app, it indicates that it is not an issue with the TV and it is an issue with the app itself. You may have to contact the app provider directly so that they can check and provide you necessary information. However, we will consider your comments on Samsung contacting Verizon FIOS partner as a feedback. Let's hope this gives Verizon some impetus. |

I got similar when I WEB-chatted with a Samsung rep, a couple weeks ago - don't hold your breath. |
|
|
It used to work, it no longer works on Samsung TV's.
It still works on some Samsung Blu-rays.
Verizon and/or Samsung know what they changed.
If they were seriously interested in fixing the issue, it would have already been done. |

It's not failing for everyone. The fios app has been working fine on my Samsung tv since day one. |

The apps D/L from Samsung and install on all the units. Dan, my guess is that you are in the fortunate minority here. |

It used to work fine for me. Went to look at it yesterday and it had been removed. Went to reinstall and could not find, so I searched fios. Found the app, went to install - and it just sat there.
WTH? |

I have the same issue. Bought a Samsung Smart TV specifically to use with the Fios TV app. It stopped working around the time of this original post. I called Samsung and they said Verizon needed to update their app to comply with the new version of Smart TV software. Verizon told me it's Samsung's problem.
Today, I turned my TV on to see if it was fixed *almost 4 weeks later* and it deleted the Fios TV app when I turned it on and now the Fios TV app is completely unavailable on the samsung app store.
My TV is worthless until this is fixed. What is the ETA? |

Maybe the fact that the app is disappearing from the app store indicated Samsung is working on a fix and removed the broken app in the mean time? One could hope... |

This is a Samsung issue. Akamai recently changed all their traffic from SSL to TLS, and that broke the app's functionality. Samsung is working on a fix right now, so that's probably why they pulled it from their app store. |

I'm hoping that's the case as well. Finger's crossed!!
This TV (for which I had an outlet installed and had it mounted) is of no use to me without this app. |
