Heard about it in the past but know nothing about it. Easy to use and worth using? I use Adblock Edge currently for Firefox 33 with NoScript.

I like it as it works with ALL browsers (EXCEPTION: IE11 until v5 is released) and pretty much anything that connects to the net will be filtered also. Acts like a local server on your machine. After moving to the freeware model, I'm not sure as of yet if it's still worth it? But at least it's free for everyone now... the subscription based model was pricey. I was a paying "Lifetime Subscription" customer. Essentially, nothing should change and everyone should still continue to benefit.

I decided to check it out.

Maybe it's just me, but SeaMonkey seems a bit snappier with ABP disabled. It's very possible that it really is... ABP's (and thus, ABE's as well) method is not ideal, and it's easily shown that your browser uses much less memory without it.

Yes I reckon an earlier version would be more simple to use! (As most programs were)

No it's pretty much ready to go right "out of the box" so to speak. The options are fairly obvious and you don't even need to use them really.

As mentioned it's ready to go out the box for the most part but... in my screenshots you will see some "tweaked" items based on my personal user preference. And I found it worked fine with No Script... I just had to allow an exception with NoScript for Admuncher.

Your dislike is unreasonable. This is not a stub installer like CNet foists on users. The developer did not see fit to prepare a portable version of AdMuncher, but did provide a single executable which gives you the option of making an effectively-portable installation of it.

There you go. Have at it.

Not a good idea IMOP.
Direct links are against forum policy.
I would advise against that and any uploaded file.

Re: Admuncher 4.94

Went ahead and installed AdMuncher. I removed NoScript temp. for now since I was not sure on how or what to do regarding the exception?

Well, unless you saw Admuncher.com popping up in NoScript as a script then there is nothing to concern yourself with. I allowed it when there was the possibility of it interfering with it a year or so a go. Not sure if it's even an issue anymore. They worked together just fine when I used them together.

Got it. Another question. I have Spywareblaster as well installed. Should I remove that now? My main browser is Firefox and it seems to me. That program is geared more towards IE?

I would not leave SpywareBlaster as it offers a unique type of protection that no other software out there has.

If you do - make sure you disable all protection before you uninstall.

Re: Admuncher 4.94

Not that I'm doubting excellent software but a permanent firewall Pidgeon hole ?
quote:
Why does my firewall say Ad Muncher is making "server" and outbound connections?
When your browser tries to connect to a web server, it is instead connected to the local Ad Muncher program (hence why it is creating a listening ("server") connection). Ad Muncher then connects out to the original target of the browser, which accounts for the outbound connections. These connections are perfectly normal and no cause for concern, the listening sockets are of no use to anyone except the programs on your computer trying to connect out.
»wiki.admuncher.com/Ad_Mu ··· uestions

My concern here is perhaps not the required firewall exception - if a user resets their firewall to defaults - that exception will be closed out.

Re: Admuncher 4.94

And?

It's a transparent proxy server. It's the nature of the beast. Privoxy and Proxomitron require the same, but are not transparent--you have to manually configure browsers to use them.

And ? Yes - why the pinhole, but I guess it's no different than your AV pinging the update server every 60 minutes.

If you re-read what I said about restoring a default firewall rule set and come back.

What of the folks that run Disconnect, too - no one has said anything on dumping that either.

I would leave SpywareBlaster installed.
I have it installed alongside AdMuncher.
