I haven't read much about Apple Pay, and I know that there are hundreds of banks that are on board. My question, though, is how will it actually work. Let's say I go to Best Buy, and I am checking out, do I wave the phone over those Pay Pass terminal things? Or do stores have to purchase new equipment to work with Apple Pay? It sounds like you can get a million banks and credit card issuers on board but if the physical store doesn't have the right hardware, it is worthless.
I find that in a given year, I rarely buy items with a credit card in store. Most of my stuff is done online, but I just don't get or see how this will work.

Considering it uses NFC, I'd assume you just sort of tap/wave it over the contactless pad on top of the pinpad. Newer pinpads have the NFC built-in, just tap the phone to the screen.

I see. I didn't realize that most of those pads have NFC built it and it just more hardware dependent upon software dependent.

Will you have to launch the passbook app and choose which card to use?

Sadly it wont be available here in Canada (right now), where there is actually a shitload of NFC terminals.

MVM,

When you put the phone near the terminal, the screen will activate and display all your cards. You can then use Touch ID to pay with the default or select a different card, then touch.

We still don't have iTunes Radio, so who knows how soon this will come here.

Yeah, and it's taken the entire release cycle of iOS7 and now into iOS8 and we still don't have it, in fact the only other place outside of the US that has it is Australia of all places.

I access it via unblock-us, but I don't have credit on my US iTunes account so I can't purchase content using it. Not a huge deal, but still seems silly that they can't license the service for Canada.

Getting my new iPhone 6 tonight at Wireless Wave (upgrading from a 4) and will be updating to 8.1 right away, unless I see here that Apple has dropped the ball again (fingers crossed).

This will only work with iPhone 6 or 6 Plus since the older phones don't have NFC, correct?

ptrowski is correct regarding the phone hardware. However, the new iWatch will have the hardware to support it.

So aside from Apple Pay, is there anything else thats significantly better or fixed?

I'm not seeing any difference, and being in Canada I don't see any reference to Apple Pay.

MVM,

A lot more stable, iCloud photo library is available, SMS relay to OS X. Probably a few other things I'm forgetting now, too.

I enabled the photo library and picked the option to optimize photos. It turned on and checked off that option. Nothing to save, just exit out of those screens.

Photos app now has Camera Roll and photostream is gone.

I don't see anything uploading, didn't get prompted to upgrade storage plan, etc. For all intents and purposes it doesn't appear to be working, doing anything, period.

As I'm typing this, it is changing. Camera Roll is now All Photos and the pictures that were in the albums are slowly going somewhere, hopefully to my library. I still should have been prompted to upgrade space...maybe that will come once the 5gb limit is reached while it's uploading.
