[Electrical] Add outlet from existing outlet on opposite side of wall?

Existing Outlet.
I want to move a cable modem into the unfinished portion of my basement. I have an existing outlet to my office on the other side of the wall. Is there anything wrong with wiring an additional outlet inline with that lead?

Is wiring it above the current box acceptable?

Nothing wrong with it. Just go to the other side of the stud. It makes life easier.

No problem at all, especially since it looks like the end of the circuit. Just extend to a new box using the same gauge romex. While you're at it you might want to properly secure the romex going into the existing box to the stud.

the wiring needs a staple a few inches above the box, the box should be metal not plastic, and then it will meet ontario hydro electric code.

Nothing in Canadian code prevents using plastic boxes, either... They just aren't as common here as in some parts of the states.

Still needs to be secured within 12" of the box as per the NEC.

Unless that box does not have a clamp, then it's 8" per 314.17(C)
