[Windows] Vendor Database support

Do vendors really care what version of an OS you are running SQL on, as long as the version of SQL is supported? Or does it really depend on the vendor?

Depends if the server will also host the app. If app & db are to be on separate servers, they generally don't care in my experience.

Also can depend if you expect then to provide support for connectivity to the app.

(IE their people might not be trained to deal with win8 aka 2012) (could be some firewall oddity that they don't know about but assuming you know how to support your servers I doubt it'd be an issue)

App is on a different host, this is strictly hosting the databases.

Considering I have had to hand hold with SQL deployments in SQL2008, I would expect I would have to be doing the same thing.
