8.1 pro - turning off auto arrange inside folders

It is very vexing to me that ms seemingly has dropped the feature to turn off auto arrange for files inside a folder. You can sort them various ways, but not turn off the auto arrange so you can bunch them up how you like. You can still turn it off on the desktop, but not inside a folder. Does anyone know of a workaround for this? Thanks.

Previous Windows versions let you arrange files the same way you could desktop icons?

I never knew this.

I think I will use this knowledge to play pranks on my coworkers.

Yes buddy Im on 98se and i can disable AUTO ARRANGE even in folders.... (It can be quite annoying)

I dunno mainlands if there is something you can do or not.... I feel for ya buddy

If you open 'WINDOWS EXPLORER' can you then disable AUTO ARRANGE from there?? (Open Windows explorer and goto the folder you want to customise and arrange you icons how you want them and then click VIEW/ARRANGE ICONS and see if you can UNCHECK "Auto arrange")

Good luck!!
