[Internet] Upload slower after maxx upgrade?

I'm pretty sure maxx was rolled out yesterday in my zip code (91316) and for an hour it was at 300 down and about 15 up and then ever since then when I've tested it it is sometimes at 200 down, sometimes 300 down but the upload has never went back up at all.

Was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose this issue?

Can you post a speed test result?

You also should post your signal levels (go to »192.168.100.1 to view them).

No idea.... signal levels look good, speed test obviously isn't going at full steam on the upload side.

My upload power seems to be hovering around the 33-34 dBmV mark, while yours are 37-38-ish. Perhaps the problem is there, too much power can cause issues. Could be some noise on the line on the upstream side.

Time to call a tech out I guess and have them look at it.

37-38 is pretty solid for upload power. It's not a problem until it gets towards 50.

Are you sure there isn't something running (torrent, maybe even a virus or trojan) that's using your upload?

Do you have a router? If so what model? Can you test with a direct to modem connection and no router? Does the router have QoS?

I'm in 91367 and having a similar issue with slower upload speed than before MAXX. My download speed is good, only upload is poor. I spend about an hour on the phone with a technical support person trying to fix this. At first I did have a low-signal alarm (the tech's words) for the upstream. I had thought that was the case and corrected that. Now I have proper signal levels and no configuration issues (the tech's words). Supposedly, the tech will be passing along the problem to someone else to look at. I find it weirdly ironic to have five times the download speed and only two-thirds of what I had before for upload. I hope TWC finds a solution.

Bye.

I called Time Warner to have another tech come out to solve this problem. They will be here next Wednesday. Besides this issue, I constantly get bad routing to servers. Is it normal for me to ping 10 MS to a Los Angeles server ( speedtest.net ) I used to always get 1 MS when I used to test my connection on speedtest.net.

We've unfortunately found that the Arris DG1670 does add a bit to the ping time. The only solution to that is to get an SBG6183 and use your own router.

That said, speedtest.net is lying to you if it said you had 1ms ping time before. The best DOCSIS can generally do is about 5-7ms to the gateway. With this Arris modem, you can't even ping the modem itself consistently under 10ms, and the ping instability gets added onto external traffic.

The Maxx upgrade involves bonding 4 of the upload channels together. It's possible at least one of the 4 has a poor SnR, which may not have been an issue if you were locked onto a single, better channel before. We unfortunately don't get SnR or error counts for upstream channels on the stats pages.

OK, I'm officially embarrassed. It is working properly now and it was my not paying attention that was the problem. I failed to remember and notice that I had enabled QOS on my router with 15/1 Mbps as the down/up speeds. As soon as I changed the QOS settings to 50/5 Mbps I got the full expected speed. I suggest that anyone who has low speed problems first try bypassing their router by directly connecting their cable modem to a fast PC and testing the speeds.

Bye.

Dont beat yourself up. I would hope that any of the tech people I know would have had you remove the router thus solving that issue in less than an hour.
