[iPad] iPad 2 in slow lane since iOS 8Is there anyone with an iPad2 running iOS 8.1 that is NOT pathetically slow now?
I read plenty of posts of others with same crippled performance but haven't caught any stating their's is still working fine.
If some are cruising along fine, then I will keep trying to find a solution that will speed things back up for me and my friend. I have found several time sucking suggestions that made no difference. Otherwise I guess I will just have to lower my expectations a couple notches.... |

Mine is not running great on 8.1. Lots of stuttering and sluggishness moving from app to app. It varies and occasionally runs just fine.
32GB with 10.6GB free. |

Doesn't the iPad Mini (non Retina) use the same internal hardware as the iPad 2,....?
If so your question would be applicable to iPad Mini users on iOS 8.x as well. |

My iPad 3 is sluggish (moving from App to App and delay in keyboard). So I told my parents NOT to upgrade their iPad 2. |

My iPad2 definitely took a major performance hit since the iOS 8 upgrade. |

Unfortunately I've been thinking about getting rid of my iPad 3 since I bought an iPad Air when it first was released. I guess I didn't move fast enought on that one,.... Still the iPad 3 was the first iPad with a retina display and some say that it's video subsystem wasn't powerful enough even when it was first released. So presumably it's less capable (snappy) with iOS 8.x. Personally I would rather have the iPad 3 over the iPad 2 regardless. |

Induced obsolescence.
Revert. |

Interestingly I find that my iPad 3 seems slightly more responsive in these areas with IOS 8 than with IOS 7. Either way I do find occasional hints of sluggishness but nowhere near enough to make me replace it just yet. After watching several updates it seems that performance impact does vary from person to person, likely based on various apps they have installed and actively used. |

Revert. I am leaning towards revert but haven't a clue how to. Have been holding out on the hope there is a flaw somewhere that can be patched & not intentional (without warning there could be a major performance hit). |

It's likely not actually intentional, but the lifecycle on these mobile devices (and really Apple devices in general) is pretty short just because of how quickly mobile performance and capacities are moving these days. The iPad 2 is like twice as fast as the original iPad or something like that, but the iPad Air 2 is like 300 times as fast as the original iPad is, so it's understandable that the oldest ones aren't as fast anymore. Ideally (as with iOS 6/7 on the iPhone 4) it'll be something that can be fixed, but it may just be a sign of the fact that the iPad 2 is one of the older devices that can run iOS 8 and Apple kept it on sale for too long. The Mac Plus was pretty slow at running system 7.5.5 too |

Mine is at about the same state of "slow" it was for iOS7. For what I use it for, it's no big deal, but if I were a heavy user, I'd likely be annoyed. (16gb with about half of that free) |

What will also be interesting is for iPod Touch users like myself. The latest generation (5th) uses the A5 processor, the same as the iPad Mini and iPad 2, so it will be interesting to see how it performs. |

Pretty slow, yeah. Usually tolerable. But I'm not planning to buy a new one for a while. |

said by Merak75:My iPad 3 is sluggish (moving from App to App and delay in keyboard). Yeah iOS 8.1 has been a big disimprovement on my iPad 3 as well. Just hate how Safari now handles tabs, it is also dramatically slower to load pages no matter how fast my connection. Atomic Web Browser is FUBAR. Wish I hadn't updated, or could at least revert back to iOS 7. |

Is there anyway to revert back to IOS 7?
If I hook my iPad up to the computer and hit reset to factory settings; will it go back to the original IOS? |
|
|
No. Once you upgrade iOS, you can only restore the same version or newer.
(There are rare exceptions to this rule, but none that can help at this point) |

OS bloat is inevitable, but it also is a way to force people off of aging/cheaper hardware and to move to a new and more expensive device. |

said by »www.macrumors.com/2014/1 ··· -1-beta/ : According to Apple's release notes, iOS 8.1.1 includes bug fixes and increased stability and performance improvements for both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4s, two of the older devices that support the operating system.
Maybe some good news coming soon. |
