[Equip] Is Comcast going to claim my modem? (Updated OP)Just curious if this looks normal to you folks that own your own modems. On Comcast's web sight my modem is listed as COMCASTMODEM SB6121. Should it not be Customerownedmodem or something? UPDATE EDIT: Spoke to them on the phone about it and was informed I am all good and it shows as being a Customer Modem. I'll keep my receipt anyway though. |

[Equip] Re: Is Comcast going to claim my modem?Mine doesn't even show the right modem.
It still shows the Arris TM602G that I haven't had in a while. I have a customer-owned Motorola SBG6580 |

If you do, make sure you keep it handy and in a safe place. |

Well, I think if Comcast thought your modem was theirs, it would say: "LEASEDMODEM sb6121" instead. See: » Re: [Bill] Well, happened again-modem rental noticeBTW - I just checked my account, and instead of the screwed-up display that was showing since June » Re: [Bill] Well, happened again-modem rental notice , nothing is showing for my internet equipment now, as pictured above. |

said by telcodad: it would say: "LEASEDMODEM sb6121" instead Thanks for that. I wasn't sure if they all said the same thing or what and "Comcastmodem" sounded kind of territorial to me like "It's ours, we peed on it!" And yes, I do have a receipt, print out of Amazon invoice anyway. I've heard Comcast has been known to still claim folks modems though, even with a receipt so I was going to nip that in the bud today while I am dealing with them for the up-sell rip off they did to me a few days ago, rather than wait until I cancel service...which may be sooner than I expect given the situation. Thanks. |

Maybe you can try the same number that's given on this Comcast Support site page: From: » customer.comcast.com/hel ··· e-meter/quote: I don't see my usage meter in My Account, what should I do? Please call Comcast Customer Security Assurance at 1-877-807-6581 to speak with a service representative.

My 6141 says "Motorola SB6141"... my 6183 says "CUSTOMEROWNED SB6183".
While I don't have the sales receipt for my 6141, I do have the original form filled out by the installer saying that my 6141 is customer-owned. It's also clearly a white retail unit as opposed to a black provider unit. |

Yeah, when they activated my purchased TM822G eMTA, it also showed up on my account without any serial number/MAC address info, along with a "dummy" TM402G eMTA with a made-up serial number and a zeroed-MAC, most likely done as a workaround for issues with their system right now with customer-owned eMTAs. |

lol "CUSTJUNK" thats a good one |
|
|
"COMCASTMODEM" "LEASEDMODEM" "CUSTOMERPURCHASED" "CUSTOMEROWNED" "SUBOWNEDWIRELESS" I had been thinking that there were pre-set codes that were used to generate all these different labels, but after seeing "CUSTJUNK" I don't know now (unless there's a last code for "Other" that lets them provide their own label). |

Just think about how much revenue Comcast would loose (by theft), if they were to simply and clearly designate the equipment as either "customer owned" or "comcast leased". It would be much more difficult to get away with billing customers rental fees or non-return of equipment charges for their customer purchased equipment.
Really, you have to work hard like this to continue "race to the bottom" in customer satisfaction. |

It really shows how highly Comcast thinks of its customers, doesn't it? :P |

Don't ever let the original receipt out of your site. I had a guy come to a friends apartment offering a deal to reactivate. When he checked it showed she didn't turn in the old modem and tuner. When I showed him the receipt he said he had to make a copy and would be back. I never saw the clown again. Comcast makes Cablevision look good. |

Re: [Equip] Is Comcast going to claim my modem? (Updated OP)hey, my township when they send me my property tax it has my last name, first name then SUX after it......
middle initial is S but the UX is a property code... but yes it is nice to know I suck *lol*
but that label might mean it's a junk modem or to junk it i duno, that modem was asked to be removed from my account 2yrs ago and it's still there it didn't use to save that... and I don't know why the model number changed either... it is a Moto SB6120 now it says JRSB6120 ? not sure where the JR came from |

Ocam's razor says the CSR who added it to the biller couldn't find "Motorola" in the list, or just left it on the default entry for "make".
The make and model data is irrelevant and is mostly used for determining modem type when your customer data is pulled up in other systems at the company.
It's the rate code on your account that tells them whether it's your modem or theirs. |
