Helping Hands not so helpful

Does anyone find helping hands to not be so helpful? I'm talking about those cheap Chinese it seems I can't find any high quality little clips on a stand sometimes with a magnifying glass to hold objects to solder. I always find the base to slide around the work surface or be uneven, the arms are always loose no matter how tight you crank them down and they're in odd positions.

Is it just me or perhaps am I looking in the wrong places or what? Everything I can find is some cheap ass POS from China.

I solder XLR Connectors, RCA, and other audio type connectors for A/V Installs. What do you guys recommend?

I agree that the Panavise is great- I have owned one for years.

Another vote for Panavise. Mine clamps to the bench top so I can position it as needed.

Well that became dangerous I just bought two bases and three different vice heads. But they look like it'll be a lot better for the components

I got the 381 vice and suction body.
The PV Jr Head 203
The portable vacuum base vice 209 for mobile jobs.
I might also buy a 350 base

I also came away with a Weller 1002 station
Some new hand tools
They stopped carrying Neutriks Connectors but have a new line of switchcraft that look pretty good so I bought some of those to try out.

The 209 Suction Cup I got doesn't seem to stick onto any of the surfaces though the suction cup just comes off after less than a minute. I've tried multiple surfaces.

Edrick:

What you need is a Karwoski Block. Take a block of wood and a female and male panel mount of your XLR connector. Drill a hole just big enough for the body of the panel mount to slip into, and screw the male and female next to each other.

When you need to solder up a connector, put the section in the connector. It holds everything steady, and helps keep the pins from getting too hot.

Taught to me by Roger Karwoski, Director of Engineering for KBIA radio.

And I forgot to ask: Where did you come away from with the goodies? Local store or online?

Nice haul

I never had much success with the suction cup when I was working. We had beautiful Formica top benches.

Nothing helps like a Panavise. I see we're in good company here.
