[DSL] ATT 2wire Modem - will it work with Frontier?

My daughter is one of the ATT customers that were migrated to Frontier last weekend. She has an ATT 2Wire Gateway 3600HGV (DSL modem) that was working happily in the ATT network. Ever since the switch she has had no Internet access. she has reset the modem several time etc...

I was wondering if anyone can confirm that this modem will work in the Frontier environment.

Thank you for your help.

As far as I know existing equipment should work with the new Frontier network. I would give Frontier a call if I were her 800-219-6877 to let them know she is down.

What do you mean by no internet access? What color are the lights on the modem? I would post in this thread-»Incoming From CT - Looking For Answers(Based off Verizon Sale)

There is a frontier engineer lurking about who may have insight if you explain to him your symptoms.

Thank you. Yes, she has called Frontier a few times.. They tell her they are working on it ... to wait a few days. Which makes no sense to me. That's why I was wondering if something else was up.

My 3600 works fine. If all lights are green it is prob a DNS issue. Try setting the DNS on one of the devices that dont work to 8.8.8.8. See if that helps.

Yes, the frontier engineer confirmed for me that DNS is a major issue, He says that the DNS server imploded over the weekend from overload

"Broadband" and "Power" lights ON - solid green (no flashing)

"Local Ethernet" and "Wireless" lights are both OFF

My 3600HGV is working fine with the transition from ATT to Frontier. There was some minor page loading issues from time time the day of the transition but its been working fine the last few days. The DNS servers used by the 2Wire were changed during the change over to the following:

Primary DNS 99.99.99.53
Secondary DNS 99.99.99.153

Those aren't any different(they're the AT&T ones). The new DNS servers are 74.40.74.40/74.40.74.41

I had to reboot to get them.

Prior to the official changeover from AT&T to Frontier, the DNS servers in my 3600HGV were:
68.94.156.1
68.94.157.1

I've rebooted my 3600HGV several times since the change over and the 99.99.99.xx servers are what it now picks up from the gateway (apparently AT&T - 32.214.168.1) upstream.

The 68.94.156.1 are the AT&T IPV6 DNS servers. I had 68.94.156.1 on AT&T for months once I turned IPV6 on(and 99.99.99.X before). Those aren't the new Frontier ones. I rebooted my gateway and it wasn't picking up an IP address so I clicked the "Refreshes the Broadband IP Address" and I connected with the Frontier DNS servers. It says "Domain: ftrdhcpuser.net"

Its gotta be a screwup on Frontier's side, the domain on 3600 is: ftrdhcpuser.net.

Hmm, that's odd. I can't really tell you if it said that on my gateway this morning with 68.94.156.1. All I know is that this DNS has to go all the way to Rochester instead of the AT&T one which stayed in CT.

Yes it is odd. Still pulling the 99.xx dns's even after hitting the Reset IP, Reset Broadband and Reboot System buttons several times over the last 20 minutes. Probably a configuration issue at the CO I'm supposedly connected to, or upstream from the CO.

My guess is that they haven't switched the DNS Nodes/Hosts in Meriden /Wallingford, CT to Frontier's DNS anycast system from AT&T/AT&T-Frontier CT standalone anycast system. The nodes probably need to be added to the anycast routing system in the Frontier network core. BenJ probably has some insight into this.

Well thats a problem. If your not connected via wire (Ethernet) or via WiFI then you are not going to have internet. Maybe you messed up something in troubleshooting?

Make sure you can at least get to the 3600's setup page »192.168.1.254/

If you can't even get there then your not going to get any further to the internet.
