How to tell which version of WMP is installed on my computer?

Never mind. Sorry, found this with the answer. Help tab was not shown, but link says to open WMP, then hit ALT-H and that will let you get to the About button which will display the version number.

All seems very convoluted way to do something that was much easier to do in the past.

Click for full size
You can still do it like the past, just right click the menubar area and choose help.

Many of these programs that normally don't show a menu bar will show it if you press and release the left Alt key. This has been a keyboard shortcut available in Windows for ages. Most people don't know about it.

That's good to know. It was obviously news to me.

Also available through the Alt key was the option to get WMP to always show the menu bar. I've done that here now.
