Re: VMedia cable internet latency issuesAt around 2000 (8pm) my speeds are typically 22-25 / 9-10 mbps on a 30/10 profile which is pretty good, but latency has improved a bit with the recent Dec 01 upgrades. I'm on Cogeco which seems better than Rogers (which I was on before) so I'm guessing Rogers is just dragging their feet regarding POI's and connections to their network - typical.
Oddly I notice that your speedtest shows the ISP as CIK whereas my tests show Vmedia. I wonder why the test shows different ISP's? IP resolution maybe? |

VMedia deals with Cogeco directly. In Rogers territory, they're reselling CIK. I think they're waiting on Rogers to approve their TPIA application with them. It's been mentioned a few times in their forums that they'll deal with them directly in a few months. |

They are definitely working towards TPIA status with Rogers. In the meantime, they've actually separated their customers from CIK's customers in an attempt to better manage bandwidth. It's going to take a few days to monitor and tweak capacity. From what I understand, they did not have direct access to manage the capacity until this past Tuesday.
I did notice a significant difference personally (London area), but it was very inconsistent. We'll see what happens by the end of the week. |

I know it's frustrating as I was with Distributel on the Rogers network before, and while slower speeds or poor latency would happen, I figured I'm paying half what I was for Rogers, and for me it was still worth it. I had some speed and latency issues when I moved and signed up with Vmedia on Cogeco, but since I pay a lot less, I was willing to wait and see. I've noticed the improvement here after some upgrades and it was worth it to wait. YMMV...and YNMV too, so take it for what it is. |

You're getting throttled. A way to slove this issue would be the get a new IP in your router settings.
CIK does this as a way to solve their congestion issues - they claim that small portion of people use most of the traffic during peak times - but they do it in such a shit way that it makes even simple things like VOIP services not work. It's pretty fucking disgusting. |

I'm currently with VMedia cable Internet (CIK). I've been getting similar slow speeds during the evening peak hours. During the day, I get almost the 25/2 Mbps that I'm paying for; but last night, I hit an all-time low of 3.77/.08 Mbps. I dropped their IPTV b/c it was un-watchable (pausing ) with any other simultaneous Internet traffic ( Netflix, 2nd IPTV box ). Now, without IPTV, I'm using less that 100GB/mo, so I don't need to be throttled.
VMedia was supposed to add additional capacity yesterday, so I don't know why last night was so bad. If I don't get at least 15 Mbps down-link tonight at peak time, I'll be on the phone tomorrow morning to cancel. |

It's pretty fucking disgusting. For some reason I have 2 allocated IPs and I can use the second one by using an unmanaged switch. I'll try having my router in one port and my desktop in the other. Then I'll compare and see if the IPs get different results on speedtest.net during the next peak. |

I've tested it and both IPs get equally awful connections, I'm pretty sure this is just from the congestion. |

I've noticed today (Jan. 12, 2015), that my speeds are terrible during the day (1pm - 5pm). I'm only getting 1.5 mbps out of the 6 mbps down on DSL. I tried rebooting the router to get a new IP, but it hasn't changed in the past week. B. |
