[Config] Cisco Block Single IP Address

Hello Experts,

We have MPLS VPN.

We often have one or two bandwidth hogs on the link.

Can someone please show me the best way to quickly block a single ip address while at the same time allow all other traffic?

Cheers

Read up on Access Lists—or, even better, read up on QoS, which will allow your bandwidth hogs to continue to use the connection without being bandwidth hogs.

If you are referring to MPLS WAN bandwidth hogs, you could work with the MPLS provider to implement QoS on the CE router. As Bink See Profile mentioned, an access-list is one part of the QoS mechanism assuming the CE router is made by Cisco.

just to clarify -- this forum isnt your own personal tac.
we are a group of people that come here and occasionally solve problems or oddities. in most other instances -- we point people in the direction to help themselves. something about fishing and feeding someone for a lifetime or some other such nonsense.

your problem is a very easy one to solve. Bink See Profile has pointed you in a direction. follow it.

The Homework Machine , oh the Homework Machine,
Most perfect contraption that's ever been seen.
Just put in your homework, then drop in a dime,
Snap on the switch, and in ten seconds time,
You homework comes out, quick and clean as can be.
Here it is "nine plus four?" and the answer is "three".
Three?
Oh me...
I guess it's not as perfect
As I thought it would be.

To be fair, you just mention "mpls vpn"... how exactly is Cisco involved? Did you give us a make / model / config of the gear?
Since you didn't give us that, exactly HOW this is a Cisco-specific problem is kinda beyond me.... there is a NETWORKING forum
for more general network inquiries.

Otherwise... I hope you're familiar with how any sort of help request goes when all it says is "it's broken, FIX IT!"

...just to give you a (Kit Kat) break, the specific thing you want to search for for the QOS option is "modular qos configuration."

Once you've read that, and if you have any questions after that... THEN we'll try and help you out.

He could also refer this out to HR or their Supervisor which is often just as effective.
