Funny new construction + weather observationsThere is a new house being built across the street from me. I get to see it all through my office window. Most of the recent construction here was by Ryland, and they ran like a well oiled machine. But this house is being built by a small local builder, and its been comical. Concrete trucks sliding into the neighbors yard, roofers falling off, attic trusses being dropped from a crane, even a skid loader knocking over the porto-potty with someone in it, etc.
Last week the landscaper did the final grade and installed bluegrass sod. It was 18 degrees at the time, and started snowing on them half way through. Somehow I don't think that sod is going to make it. Today, still below 20 degrees, they sent a power washer to clean the dirt off of the sloped driveway. He started at the top and worked his way down, then I got to see him crawl on his hands and knees back up to the garage when he was finished. An hour later the appliances showed up. They couldn't get the truck up the driveway, so they tried rolling them up on a dolly. (I had to stop working I was laughing so hard) When that didn't work, they tried rolling them through the new sod, just as the builder's rep showed up to yell at them for messing up the new sod. They are now using a rather elaborate pulley system to pull them up the driveway on a cart. |

I'm never amazed at just how incredibly stupid the majority of the population seems to be. |

HH Gregg around here uses two guys wearing harnesses with a long web strap under the appliance. The trucks have GPS, and they get ten minutes a stop to unload and install. They park in the street and literally run up the drive carrying a refrigerator or whatever.
I don't think I'd buy a wall-mounted TV there. |
