[Tech] canon powershot >>>>>>computer as remote

Have a canon powershot 200is Can I use a laptop as a remote via usb to trigger a picture to be taken.
I will be taking pictures of slides via a projector and screen and don't want to bump the camera on tripod in the process.
any other tips on this method?

Re: canon powershot >>>>>>computer as remote

I don't see any reference to remote shooting in the manual...

I know with the Rebel's you can trigger either via the EOS software, or with a wireless remote; but the manual doesn't say the same thing for the Powershot...

Some of the older Powershot cameras could do this through the Zoombrowser software that comes with your camera in the box.

The third party firmware CHDK appears to allow this: »chdk.wikia.com/wiki/PTP_ ··· xtension

All Powershot models have a self-timer feature. Set it to 10 secs and away you go. The time between pressing the release and the camera taking the shot will eliminate any camera shake. Sometimes low-tech is the way to go

P.S. When on the tripod, make sure to turn IS off or you may not be able to make exposures.
