3 TB hard drive question.I have an older system running Win 7 64 that I am wanting to use as a media server with Plex. I installed two Seagate 3TB hard drives in this system. My mobo does not have UEFI, but I'm using the drives for storage not to boot from. I formatted both drives as GPT drives in disk management. Both drives show up in disk management as 3TB drives. But, in my bios they are only showing up as 746 GB drives.
My question is, will I be able to use all my hard drive space that disk management shows, or am I limited to what my bios is showing? |

Because you're not booting from these drives what your BIOS See's or doesn't see for the size of the drives doesn't matter. Your OS sees all of the space so that's all thats needed.
Don't know if there is a BIOS update for your mobo or not but it's not needed in this instance. |

That's the way I understood it as well, but then I read this thread. » hardforum.com/showthread ··· =1775905Specifically this reply: If the BIOS sees the drive as only 801GB, it doesn't matter what windows recognizes it as, 801GB is all you are going to be able to use. |

Ok, have you tried to load up any data past the 746 GB as yet?
What make/model of PC is this? |

What make/model of PC is this? I haven't gone past 746 GB on either drive. The PC is a home built with a MSI P45 Platinum mobo running the most current bios. It also has the latest Intel RST drivers. The Intel rapid storage software shows the full capacity of the drives. |

I'm a bit confused by the array_0000 details. What is that supposedly showing?
Anyway, again, in this instance if your Intel rst shows the full capacity AND your RST drivers are of the latest version, as referenced in the hardforum thread, then there shouldn't be an issue. |

The upper RAID volume is my OS drive. The lower two internal drives are what I was trying to illustrate. Those are my two 3 TB drives. I'm currently loading up one of the drives with some large image files to test it past 1 TB. |

Well, I went past the capacity my mobo was showing, and the drive is continuing to take on data. I think I will be fine. |
