[Equip] Suggestions for an AC compatible router with Blast

I'm thinking of upgrading my Asus RT66N router to one that supports the AC standard as I have two new iGadgets that supports the 802.11AC standard.

My Comcast speed is Blast 105/10 and my modem is the Motorola SB6183.

What about an ASUS RT-AC66? That's what I have, though I have no AC devices at this time. Very happy with it (running Merlin firmware)

I have the Asus AC68U and it works great with the latest Merlin firmware 376.48_1 I also own a Asus RT-N66U both have been good routers for me. In fact at this time i am using the RT-N66U because i dont have any AC clients yet but when i do i will throw the 68U back in line. Stay away from the new Asus RT-AC87U its still to new and has many bugs that need to be worked out.

Thoughts on this router, if I were to go for the doorbuster deal on it I'd have to drive south of the border to CT because of the Mass blue laws.

$59 with free shipping (return to ANY best buy) sounds like a good deal, not worth driving to far.

I go to Enfield, CT all the time. The stores at Enfield Square sometimes have better bargains than the same stores at Holyoke/Eastfield Malls in Western Mass.

I suggest reading reviews, comparing specs and go with a router that is high rated in the class you want.

Why not buy an AirPort Extreme to go with all your iGadgets?

Linksys WRT1900AC without question. I have it, love it, bought it for all my friends and relatives. Great range and bandwidth.

The problem with that router is at there is no Gigabit Ethernet WAN or LAN, so you would not be able to use a faster Internet connection above 100Mbps, which means no 105 or above.

I have the Netgear R7000 nighthawk and couldn't ask for a better router.
My 3 Grand kids and a couple of their friends can be doing whatever kids do and I can stream Netflix HD without any buffering. My smart TV is about 45 feet away through 3 walls from the router.
The Netgear routers did have some trouble with IPV6, but that has been cleared up months ago.

The Netgear Nighthawk beats the WRT in performance and has a cheaper price.

I like "smallnetbuilder" and have used it, but it doesn't list all current routers in that link. You have to dig deeper and use the filters.

NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000)

But it's not Netgear and IPv6 actually works, plus great NAS performance, wireless range, and bandwidth. Plus it looks awesome. Totally worth the price. Did I mention all the rave reviews from CNET and PCMag? I just was at a ton of stores the past two days and all the Linksys' were flying off the stores, even the WRT.

When I recently decided to buy a new router, it was toss-up between the Nighthawk X6 & the RT-AC87U. Even though the Nighthawk is a 3200 & RT-AC87U is a 2400, I went with reviews about coverage & how user friendly is the UI & decided on the ASUS.

I'll add: I like the app on my phone where I can access my networked HDD through this ASUS router.

Did you buy the Netgear you were holding in the pic?

Yes, and it's an awesome piece of hardware. I bonded the two 5 ghz channels with the smart (can't think of the term) into one SSID) and the connection seems like the devices are connected directly to the modem. They don't bog down.

I even picked up my Wi-Fi signal at my mother's crossing guard corner a block down the street (it was strong enough to connect but too weak to transmit). This thing is the beast.

Too bad I don't have a 1 Gbps symmetrical connection.

Nice. I may pick your brain later on about it if you don't mind.
