Various Cable TPIA facing slow speeds at the same time?I have been following some of the slow speed threads on various boards of DSLReports, and other forums and I have noticed how over the last 6-8 weeks customers with cable internet service through a TPIA provider have been dealing with slow speeds and/or high pings. I have had it happen to me personally, and also friends in the same boat.
A lot of these people mention how their cable internet connections have usually been rock solid (With Teksavvy, Start, Vmedia etc) in terms of speed up until the last month or two when suddenly they have been facing slow downs.
So why all of these issues all of a sudden? Could these companies have miscalculated capacity all at the same time, or is Rogers up to no good on their end? We keep hearing about how Rogers is barely adding customers relative to past fiscal quarters so would it be possible that they are screwing around with TPIA service to drive people back to them? They could figuratively just 'accidentally' pull a plug here or there and blame it on capacity.
Another far out possibility - is our traffic being routed through some kind of data sniffing infrastructure in the name of national security (with all that went on weeks ago)? Might explain the high pings, and why a lot of these TPIA's have been tight lipped about the recent issues.
Anyhow, I'm bored and not totally serious about all this but just wanted to hear some thoughts. |

We currently don't have any widespread capacity issue for Ontario on Electronic Box |

I'm a little surprised none of the TPIA players have commented. Just a little though. Your observations seems to be fairly accurate, reasonable, and deserving of a response.
In my experience, when you post something and hit a wall of silence like this it's usually because of 1 of 2 things. One, you are off the mark by such a wide margin they can't be bothered, or two, you're right on the money and ignoring you is their best option, hoping you just go away quietly.
The speed issues I'm seeing are quite odd. I get full advertised speeds on Start's speedtest server, but that's the only place. Browsing anywhere is generally slower now than it has ever been, and sometimes painfully so. I'd call it... sluggish. File transfer speeds via sftp tend to wax and wane. This is Rogers in Toronto, on Start. It hasn't gotten to the point where I'm bitching about it, but I'm close to that and a VDSL inquiry. |

I have been noticing some unusual slugginess on Ebox on Videotron. But seeing that it is Videotron, nothing from that company surprises me. They are the most conniving company here. Our version of Rogers. |

Not sure where you're pulling your reports from. I've been with Start for 18 months now and happier than pig in poop. No drops in speed, ping times are all normal. |
