need help figuring out whats wrong with the macbook

the macbook just sets at the apple screen with the spinning gear below it, ive tried disk first aid on the os dvd that the laptop originally came with and it shows the disk as no problems found
Just trying to get it working so my buddy has something to do while hes in the hospital

Have you tried to reinstall OSX? However Looks like to me the hard drive is failing with the disk0s2 I/O error.

The machine is running FSCK, the file system checker, on boot, which is then reporting IO errors. If you wait long enough, the FSCK run may finish and the computer might boot.

That said, I also think your disk is on it's way out, but fortunately, changing the drive in that model of mac isn't too difficult.
