Rumor: Verizon Selling Off FL, CA, TX Fixed line Networks? To be clear this is just a rumor and I've been given absolutely no evidence to support this, but I've heard from at least one insider that Verizon is getting ready to announce the sale of DSL/POTS assets in TX, CA and Florida. The source has provided me with no hard details, and it's unclear who the theoretical buyer would be (though I'd assume it's CenturyLink or Frontier). I'm posting to ask if anybody has any additional information about this transaction to contact me here or here for a potential front page news story. Confidentiality is, of course, respected. As for users, anybody know what kind of fixed-line assets Verizon still has in California? Didn't think they had much of a presence there. I have to say I'd find it hard to believe CenturyLink or Frontier are in a position for a deal of this size after the previous Fairpoint/Frontier deals, so my gut tells me it's unlikely. |

I'd be surprised if the sell in Florida, they are in the most densely populated area in the state, Pinellas County FL ( Clearwater / St Petersburg and across the bay to Tampa and south to Sarasota). On the other hand CenturyLink does border to the south to the Verizon foot print, so its technically possible.
It's also one of two super VHO's the supply Video to all of FIOS TV customers |

It could include FiOS. I wasn't given enough information. Again, I only got vague claims. |

Due to the fact POTS and FIOS use the same CO's, its impossible to sell one and not the other. In all past sales, When landlines are sold, its always included FIOS assets. In some cases, the FIOS wasn't even a year old.
Verizon going 100% wireless make allot of sense from a PL stand point, thats were the real money is |

Extreme northeast Pasco is ATT/Centurylink, as is everything else to the north and east. (Hernando county, etc.) The Tampa Bay area is the only pocket I'm aware of in Florida that isn't AT&T/Centurylink/Bellsouth. |

There's some areas in the central valley of CA that are Verizon, like Exeter. » en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ex ··· lifornia |

Almost all of the Inland empire and san Bernardino area's too.
Lots of Copper and Lots of DSL out there.
The way California is, that the real centrally densely populated area's went to SBC formally pac bell, and almost all the outskirts and rural area's went to Verizon Formally GTE/Contel.
They have a rather large footprint out this way |

They also are the primary carrier for regions to the south and north. Unless they are trying to exit the wired business altogether, I would be very surprised if they sell all of their Florida wired assets. If its a partial sale of Florida assets, you probably have no further than the FIOS deployment map to look at areas which they are likely to keep.
If they were to sell all of their Florida assets, I would also check to see if AT&T is a contender as they are the predominant carrier statewide after the BellSouth acquisition. AT&T doesn't want to be in the (residential) wired business any more than Verizon at this point, but the assets would give AT&T a much better presence on the west coast of Florida for all of their business lines. |

So we have an UNCONFIRMED rumor from UNCONFIRMED sources with NO evidence that SOMTHING is maybe going to happen?
Would this even be on this page if the word VERIZON wasn't attached to it? I think not. |

Yes, and I make that perfectly clear from the first sentence of my post. I'm not announcing anything, or gushing over something. As an employee of the website tasked with writing content I'm here asking if any others have heard the rumor, trying to ferret out of there's anything valid to what I'm hearing. |

Hopefully it's century link so Century Link can roll out their 1GBPS to my area. Also if Verizon sells their area to centurylink. Century link please keep the unlimited data. If Century Link don't keep unlimited data I will say good bye to unlimited and deal with capped connections from Comcast and Century Link. |
