[Other] Belkin F9K1103 v1 does 78Mb on a 100Mb cable connectionAfter being upgraded from 50Mb/s to 100Mb/s my N750 Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router F9K1103 v1 is topping out at from 59Mb/s to 78Mb/s at max on my 100Mb/s cable connection. Yet when I plug my computer directly into the modem I can connect at 120Mb/s. I don't understand what is wrong with my router. The Wan and 4 Ethernet ports handle 1000Mb/s. My WiFi router is set to 2.4GHz 802.11g and 5GHz 802.11a because all the devices in my house connects at 802.11g or 802.11a only. My computer is using Cat7a dual titanium shielding 18AWG Ethernet and Cat7a dual titanium shielding 18AWG and connecting the WiFi router into the cable modem I'm using the same 18AWG Ethernet and Cat7a dual titanium shielding 18AWG. I just don't get what is going on here. |

If the F9K1103 does more than 78Mb, then it's something else limiting things. ...and for the love of all that's IT... do _NOT_ do any internet speed tests over wireless. My 00000010bits Regards |

I use the internet on my computer only and that computer is not wireless compatible but Ethernet only. |

You have proved your ISP is delivering the speed they claim. Since the wired computer gets the marketed rate when connected to the modem but is slower when connected to your router - the router is not able to to keep up with the faster connection speed.
Time for a higher performance router. NAT routers have a lot of bookkeeping to do translating IP address. As speed goes up so does CPU horsepower requirements.
You just put the stuff in there about Cat 7a titanium cable as a joke, right?

I'm betting something in the chain somewhere is connecting at 100mbit rather than 1 gbit, as the router is capable of over 800mbps wan to lan routing.
Its impossible to have 18AWG cat7, so I'd start by taking them back to whatever snake oil outlet sold them to you and demand a refund. |

That is what is printed on the unknown brand name Ethernet cable itself with no labeling on the clear plastic packaging. |

How much did this "unknown brand" cable cost? |

|
25ft for $50 and 7ft for $14. |

Try some new cables. Cat5e is more than adequate for your needs. » smile.amazon.com/Cable-M ··· et+cable» smile.amazon.com/Mediabr ··· et+cableHave you checked to see if there is a firmware update available for the router? |

2nd pb2k , smallnetbuilder charts tests this device out to around 800Mbps. With that as a baseline, take the internet out of the equation and test LAN2LAN, LAN to WAN and WAN to LAN yourself to confirm whether you get those numbers or not. My 00000010bits Regards |

I got it to do 120Mb/s by changing the settings from 2.4Ghz 802.11g and 5Ghz 802.11a to 2.4Ghz 802.11n and 5Ghz 802.11n. |

I'm confused I thought the low speed problem was with the wired connection. Wi-Fi should have absolutely no effect on wired connection. . That being said .11n is a vast improvement over previous generations of Wi-Fi. So it is good to use for your wireless equipment. Is is possible you computer has an active wired and wireless connection? If so need to turn off the Wi-Fi interface. /tom |

My computer was custom built with no wireless capability at all. |

said by floydb1982:My computer was custom built with no wireless capability at all. In that case nothing you did with Wi-Fi should have any effect on speed, it could even be turned off and wired connection will work fine. There is something else going on that is affecting speed. By any chance when you switched to N did you also turn on WPA security? Could the thru-put issue have been caused by someone else using your connection via Wi-Fi? /tom |

Like I said I got it to do 120Mb/s by changing the settings from 2.4Ghz 802.11g and 5Ghz 802.11a to 2.4Ghz 802.11n and 5Ghz 802.11n and then a power reset. That didn't last for very long at all.The router started getting real hot and the internet completely failed then smoke started pouring out followed by a green flash. Then it started catching on fire. With the plastic melting I picked it up off my wooden dresser and took it and ran to the front door and threw it in front lawn. I just let it burn the rest of the way. I don't have a backup router on hand so I just plugged my computer directly into the cable modem. I got to wait until tax season before I can buy a new router. I can't figure out what I did wrong to it. |
