[OOL] Extremely happy with Ultra 75! Optimum.net speed test | SpeedTest.net speed test | |
I just upgraded to ultra 75 a few days ago and I'm getting very good speeds. I never had internet this good before. My previous speed was 15/5 and the maximum download speed I had was 20mbps. Now I'm getting around 88mbps as the maximum. I can now download legally acquired linux distros at more than 8/Mbs! I'm so happy Does anyone know if Optimum has a cap or throttles speed in case I decide to download over 500gb of linux distros this month? |

No caps and no throttling with Optimum. Download and stream to your hearts content. Also, if you have Netflix, Cablevision is part of their OpenConnect content delivery network which means you can stream in ultra HD and 3D to your Netflix capable device. |

Thanks! I have netflix too! Happy I have cablevision and not comcast with their caps.
Getting around 10MB/s with usenet.
It would be nice if optimum could come out with a 150mbps tier and upgrade the ultra 101 customers to 150mbps and the ultra 75 customers to 101mbps for free. Like the boost customers last year. |

At least bump the Ultra 101 upload speed. Right now Ultra 75 is a Ultra 101 lite with the same upload speed and a lower download speed. |

I'd love a upload speed bump for Ultra50 and above. 25mbps is good but being a content creator more upload is always welcomed! |

I've been very impressed with Optimum this past year. No more of the bad evening speeds like in years past.
Do wonder why you're getting the same upload as us Ultra users though. |

Do wonder why you're getting the same upload as us Ultra users though. Because they can not (yet) provide a higher upload speed - Possibly due to the 3rd upload channel not being system wide yet. OTOH: You should have handled the upload speed issue by offering a speed higher than Ultra 50 but still lower than Ultra 101. Once they can support a higher upload speed, then bump the Ultra 75 speed to 35 and the Ultra 101 to the faster than 35 speed. |

Asking because I have 50/25 services, and I'd be surprised if you see a difference between what I'm getting and you're getting with normal use. Just a thought, because it's my understanding that ultra 75 is $15 more per month than ultra 50.

I thought it was $15 on top of Basic. |

None of us will feel any difference in average use like browsing the internet or using typical streaming services like youtube, netflix, hulu, etc but we will experience a big difference if you use it to download big files.
On usenet I'm able to maximize my download speed to about 10.5 megabytes per second and download a 30-40GB file in about a hour. Your 60mbps speed averages to about 7.5 megabtyes per second so it might take around 2 hours to download 40gb. But if you don't download huge files like me frequently than 60mbps is absolutely perfect for you.
And for anyone wondering the other posters were absolutely right. Cablevision doesn't cap or throttle. I think I used about 1.3TB of bandwidth so far and nothing happened to my speed. |
