Edit: Was on the phone with T2 tech was put on hold and line disconnected nocall back no nothing day5 no connection. Even called in to cancel and the rep insisted that i should wait for a tech even though i told him am not interested just refund me.. what did i get myself into.
edit2: Got called back.. looks like they have a "CIKTECH" coming to check the wiring in my house and swap the modem. |

SmartRG is a proven performer. Nobody really knows what this CIK modem is made of. |

Oh ok thanks.. had one of there techs come over yesterday.. but the whole problem is that the modem would take 30mins+ to sync and they are reluctant to send a bell tech.. i'll see how this modem works out for me. speeds are ok..asked to sort my upload today |

No chance... your attenuation is 25db, which is quite far. Distance affects upstream a lot quicker on VDSL than downstream.
They may be able to put your upstream up a bit, there is a profile with 4meg upstream. as your current SNR is good at 3meg upstream, and there is some headroom. Assuming it doesn't fluctuate a lot.
V26944-20032_4032-2048_00011 - Fastpath V26944-20032_4032-2048_66211 - Interleaved
The next step up is 6400 upstream sync profile, which I don't think your line can handle from looking at these stats. I would suggest asking for interleaved profile, it will keep the line more stable. |

Do you have an active telephone line, or is it just dryloop?
I'm not sure if the procedure is to install a POTS splitter on a dryloop install. |

The attenuation dropped, which is weird, as that normally doesn't fluctuate. Did you change something else in your wiring setup? Where is the modem plugged in? |

connection crashed again, called in to see when they booked a bell visit just to find out they didn't. was told that i was online and everything seem fine..well thats it i canceled last straw worst tech/customer support ever.. 15days no help. Can you believe how hard it was just to cancel they hung up twice and once even transferred me to tech support LOL?
Just a warning to all CIKTEL IS A GAMBLE if it works your good to go, however if you run into line problems like myself prepare to deal with the worst t1 support who will make you wait days for a response and no call back to follow back! |

I asked CIK if they can offer their current promo when using my own modem. They refused, saying the promo is offered with KW5262 only, even if I already have another modem from their Approved modems list with specs matching my plan. It still can be used, but a standard service rate will apply. Given this, I wonder if using the modem on CIK network here may allow another country like China to basically collect all info on millions of local customers here, including their credit card numbers used while on the web, passwords, logins to various bank sites, and all other crap. Despite being encrypted, it can still be collected and then sent for decryption to that country as a large Canada clients database. Did anyone examine the modem firmware, can it be replaced with Linux like with routers? What do you think guys - spying possible? Otherwise why would CIK discourage folks to use own modem, especially on plans with free KW5262 rental? I read NA buyers of Aliexpress.com started posting in numbers on the web that Ali blocks their transactions demanding copies of their passports, DL and credit cards uploaded to them, even if there was no payment issues. Can it be more of the same "spy deal" pushed by their gov upon large CN companies dealing with foreign clients? I wonder what they're going to use for such a huge number of genuine foreign identity samples collected in various countries? |

I think that sounds a bit paranoid On the other hand, it might be a way to get a cheap KW5262 for me to play around with |

lol their office is in North York.
You should be able to run it in bridge mode and use your own router. The UI looks exactly like the SmartRG. |
|
|
I don't think you read attentively what I posted. It bears no difference where their office is, even better here. CIK seems to be a CN gov. fully or in part owned company, serving local clients here. Bridge mode is irrelevant here. |

I'm using my own modem SmartRG 505 with TekSavvy firmware. They sell the SmartRG if you want Internet only. The KW5262 is for voip and Internet.
But yes, your ISP can spy on you. I guess get a VPN and run that if you really are concerned. But then you'll have to trust your VPN. |

said by Teddy Boom:I think that sounds a bit paranoid Got an answer from CIK re. using my own modem with their current promo with free KW5262 modem included: "First of all, we will not provide promotion price if you are going to use your own modem. You need pay original monthly fee with full processing fee."It seems to be self-explanatory... or self-revealing? What can be an incentive for CIK to forcefully handout costly modems for free in large quantities, and impose a big penalty when a customer wants to use their own modem with similar specs matching the plan? |

Bottom line is, they probably aren't that costly, and CIK has never liked BYOM. Probably the CSRs are trained to make life difficult too.. If somebody wanted to sign up and sell me the modem though... That would be interesting |

Way too many "probably"? Can you explain your interest in this model? You can easily buy it on aliexpress.com at $125 though. » www.aliexpress.com/item/ ··· 980.html But even in this scenario, CIK may deny their promo rate, despite your modem is the same exact model as their free modem. Just keep in mind, after a few purchases Ali may start canceling after 1 day processing initially successful transactions, and demanding from you to upload copies of several personal docs to them, usually without any transaction problem, notice or explanation, at times claiming they need to "ensure transactions safety" » help.aliexpress.com/paym ··· ail.html , often after you left a negative feedback for some purchase, even if all your other feedbacks are positive. Many folks complain to Visa HQ for these very serious Contract violations by Aliexpress and Alibaba, and most other Visa licensed sites would be banned for it. Google for that... "probably". |

Looks like CIK is charging $100 modem + $10 shipping - $70 discounted processing fee + HST = $45.20. That's more my speed |
|
|
That sounds similar to what I said above. Can one change its firmware?
Also, by selling you a modem, a subscriber would have to ask CIK to provision a different modem, causing all other above mentioned extreme charges re-applied I presume... |
