Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS staticI have the Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS in my 2001 Ford Ranger. Recently I have been getting static when listening to any local FM radio stations that are not digital. The signal is fine if it goes to digital. No static at all. If the signal bounces back and forth between an analog signal and digital, then it's static on the analog but always fine on the digital. When I say static, I am still able to listen to it, but it sort of sounds like a staticky AM station. The signal isn't clear. This happens to all FM stations. |

Check the antenna connection(s). Make sure the radio chassis and antenna are properly grounded. Even local stations will not stay digitally tuned if they are weak. Find out the power of these stations to determine if you have a problem or not. Remember that FM is "line of sight" - mountains, large buildings, microwave towers or other obstructions can cause undesirable operation. |

Did you install any LED signal/brake/marker lights recently? They use an internal switcher to get maximum illumination, and that causes RF interference. Outfitting my vehicle with LEDs all around (and these were the expensive/good LEDs) played havoc with my scanner. |

The stations have the proper range that I pick them up for digital and analog, but it seems something unique to the setup that is causing the static. Should I check these connections in the back of the radio or is there another location? |

Check the grounds, especially at the antenna base where it connects to the body. As a vehicle ages these connections may become loose or electrically degraded due to rust and/or micro corrosion. Run a ground wire from the radio chassis to an under dash ground location, being careful not to change factory grounds or ruin an otherwise good ground for something else. |

Did you install a dash cam? My dash cam screwed up my FM radio signal, Garmin GPS and my factory Remote Keyless Entry. |

Since this is a new issue, I suspect that something has gone wrong with your antenna connection. Could be internal to the radio. :-( |

Good idea Cho Baka. It is a no name camera and is labeled as a "vehicle DVR". It was purchased privately from someone on a different site. It only affects things when recording and plugged into the power socket. So, basically, all the time. Here is a picture of it.
